For the Sake of Your Love

Versions: #1#2
For the sake of your love, I’ll give my life
With a laugh, I’ll give up my faith
I’ll give a new twist to what’s written in the stars
In exchange for you
May God himself give me anything
Or gurus say whatever truths, I’ll leave it all behind

I know no one else but you
I admit you as my own self
As mine, I consider only you
My cheerful lover

For the sake of your love, I’ll give my life
With a laugh, I’ll give up my faith
I’ll give a new twist to what’s written in the stars

No other desire but you
Resides in my heart
Wherever far I depart
I, all the same, come into you

For you is my journey
Without you, where do I go?

I know no one else but you
I admit you as my own self
As mine, I consider only you
My cheerful lover

For the sake of your love, I’ll give my life
With a laugh, I’ll give up my faith
I’ll give a new twist to what’s written in the stars

In exchange for you
May God himself give me anything
Or gurus say whatever truths, I’ll leave it all behind

You're my morning
You're my shore
And at the same time my river
You're my pass to God
You're the starting point for this caravan of mine
And you're its final destination
You're my whole life

For the sake of your love, I’ll give my life
With a laugh, I’ll give up my faith
I’ll give a new twist to what’s written in the stars

Author's comments:

Vaaste (वास्ते) is a traditional address to God which (in a prayer) means "For your sake/For your love". I've merged both into one.

When the recording stops and everybody asks "What happened? What do we do now?" the girl addresses her ex-boyfriend who refused to perform his part of the song at the last minute.
- That's exactly what the matter is. I loved you but you left me with a broken heart and this broken phone. And I thought "Why not? Let this voice on the phone be by my side"

I was only confused about the first 2 lines. Thanked for that. But there are mistakes.
"Or gurus say whatever truths" this is extra. nothing like this in song.
तुमसे ज्यादा मैं ना जानू means I know nothing more than you.
तुमसे खुदको मैं पहचानूँ means I recognize myself through you.
कदम उठाऊं जहाँ भी जाऊँ तुझी से जाऊँ मिल मैं . this is also not accurate.
it feels like you've used a translator.

Hi, Vinay.

Thank you for your comment. I'm a Hindi learner so I use anything that comes my way - translators, on-line dictionaries, books and my precious two-volume Hindi dictionary.

As for this तुमसे खुदको मैं पहचानूँ I understand it as I identify myself with you or you're my inalienable part - it's about a Hindi image of two lovers making a whole not only in this life but in other seven lives as well. I just rendered it my way.

तुमसे ज्यादा मैं ना जानू - I understand it as I know no one else but you. I should have translated it closer to the original. I'll correct that.

जन्नतें सच कहूँ छोड़ दूँ - this one surprised me. It was different when I was translating the song. It might have been edited and I might not have been notified. Quite recently I've just replaced an invalid video. I can't remember who the previous editor was. I'll think about the best way to translate it anew.

Anyway, thank you for your kind attention. Your feedback is much appreciated.
