The Wellerman
There once was a ship sailed upon the sea
And it had a name, the Billy O' Tee
A stormy sea astern there be,
You, my mates sing out with me!

It's for us to labour on as Weller men
And so tea, and sugar, and rum they'll send
We'll get the job done, and then -
There'll be liberty for us
And so, in a majestic moment
The ship overtook the Right whale
It was then the captain vowed
He would catch that whale

So the Right whale, summoned its strength,
It shook the ship with its tail
The whale was struck with a harpoon
And he dove to the bottom
Chorus:
So the captain of that whaling ship
It wasn't the reward he wanted to catch -
It was to honour the creed of whaling men,
And so that whale was taken in tow

For forty days or more
He towed that ship with all its might
Well, the boats are all at the bottom of the sea,
But that whale, it couldn't care less
Chorus:
I've heard the battle is raging on
The line has not been broken; the whale has not been set free!
