Ya Taiba (يا طيبة)

[2x]

  • 1. "اشتقنالك" /'eshtiqnâlik/ - The letter "ق" (q) is usually pronounced as the "voiceless uvular stop" /q/, but, since this singer is from the Levant, she pronounces it as a "glottal stop" /ʔ/, and also, she doesn't pronounce the "alif" (ا) at the beginning of the word, so she says it as: /shti'nalik/.
Also, in the Arabian Peninsula/Gulf, and parts of Maghrib, this letter (ق) is pronounced as the hard letter "G"(such as in the words "game", "go", ...).
  • 2. "جفاني" /gafânî/ - The letter "ج" (g) is in this case pronounced as G in the English word "Genre", since the singer is from the Levant. In other areas, it's usually pronounced as in the word "General". However, in Egypt, it's pronounced hard, as in the word "Game."
  • 3. "ناظر" /nâẓir/ - The letter "ظ" (ẓ) is pronounced as the pharyngealized "z" /zˤ/ (since the singer is Levantine), but, more common pronunciation would be as the pharyngealized "dh" /ðˤ/.
