The old Lady thought

The old woman wanted to be young,
She thought of getting rid of her old man somewhere.

The old woman did not want to live with the old man
She planned then to drown her old man in the river.

- Let's go, let's go, old man, go play to the river,
I shall then bathe you old man there in the water.

Meanwhile then she deftly kicked him with her foot,
The old man flew into the next world in the river head first.

Oh I thank God that there's no old man,
Tomorrow I'll go to the bazaar, to buy a young man.

I didn't buy a young one, I had drowned the old one,
My head is so stupid, for that which I had done.

The old woman had returned, wandering in the river,
Looking in the water, searching for the old man.

The old woman began to cry, O so heart wrenching,
She looked back behind herself, the old man rose out of the water.

And you old woman, as a prank wanted to drown me
But I to spite you will live yet 100 years

Thanks!

A fine, optimistic folk song. Thanks for posting it.

If you like playful and joking Ukrainian folk-songs, I can recommend to you "kolomyykas/kolomyyky", predominantly Hutzul Ukrainian folk songs. I uploaded many of them onto this website, some of them are also translated into English by generous users. Regular smile
