The original poem begins with "يا ذا القـوام الســـمهـري"
The word "قوام" refers to his lover's build & stature, and he describes it as "Samharian" which refers to the straight and powerful arrow, named after a man called Samhar who used to make and straighten arrows.
"حاوي الرضاب السكري" refers to his love having sugary saliva, though the word "الرضاب" can also mean perfume, honey or sugar.
"اللمى" is a brown tinge in the lips which was typically considered a sign of beauty amongst the Arabs.
"صحاح الجوهري" is an Arabic dictionary. The poet describes how the words coming from his love's radiant smiling mouth and dark-tinged lips are so eloquent and well-chosen that even the dictionary takes from it.
"الجبين" means forehead but was translated here to "face" to allow for translation of meaning.
