Kabát - Burlaci (traducción al Inglés)

Burlaks

Ropes made of hemp - those can withstand quite some handling,
bad breath, and a load of alcohol beneath their skins.
The skies are red, and the birches are going to bloom soon.
Guys are passing time out of boredom with the Russian roulette,
when they are dragging the ships against stream,
despite all the rocks.
Why only the desires fade over time?

Slaves of the river, dust, dirt and hard soil -
the winners take the dance of death with a bear.
And this way they live day by day - for thousand years.
Burlaks [1] are drinking, as there will be no tomorrow,
when they are dragging the ships against stream,
despite all the rocks.
Why only the desires fade over time?

Ref:
Skies are dark, and much lower,
only the howl of wolves come as the old choir from the mountains,
and I fail to find any shelter,
when the straight road fades,
people are angels - or dragons,
and all the good deeds makes you stronger,
so - just turn around and look:
on the boats that are behind you.

It is not easy - in this world of lies, and half-truths,
on the shore, a harmonica started to play,
and the whirl of this summer has washed away all the footprints
we are the same as them - there is not enough strength to continue,
when we drag the ships against stream,
despite all the rocks.
Everybody has to touch the bottom one day.

2x:
It seems to me that...

Skies are dark, and much lower,

and I fail to find any shelter,
when the straight road fades,

and all the good deeds makes you stronger,

on the boats that are behind you.

[1] Burlaks were workers in imperial Russia, that dragged riverboats against river stream (instead of horses, as in the rest of the Europe). It was thought to be an extremely difficult job at the times, and was often taken by criminals or people of othervise dubious history.
