Oh, I've been beaten up so many times for my translations, I can't take it any other way than what it really is - brutal honesty. I know my Russian sucks. But, believe it or not, it's better than it was, thanks to all the help the others give me. So thanks to all. I'll redo. But, from what I understood the Russian translation of "ghetto" is NOT an equivalent to the Russian word. So, I had to do something. I'll fix it, but you don't have to delete your comments. I go back to them often for help. I learn a lot more from the corrections, so please don't delete anything. Thanks. Luckily for me no one has reported me to admin for my horrible translations, as I do correct them. But I'm trying...on the proofreader's nerves. I try not to be. And, since this is such an old song, I really didn't think anyone would care. I was wrong. :/

Я согласен с Филом, его переводы на русский становятся лучше, надо только немного доработать.
Мне кажется, "гетто" вполне можно оставить.

That's worse than a ghetto. There's electricity and water in America's ghettos. Didn't understand the whole song, of course. But, I find it strange that Russians almost exactly follow American censorship rules - allowing him to rap блядь и суха but they censor out п***ец. This does also bring up another HUGE translation problem. The way that Russians misuse an English word - Нигер, WOULD be censored in English, unless it's rapped by a person who is black. If a white person were to say it, that word would certainly be censored. I find it shocking to hear white Russians rap that word. It's as if they don't have the slightest clue as to what it means.

Funny group name. Do they know what their name means? Probably not. That's a shame, it's funny. Hilarious actually, because you can't sixty-nine with three people.

Про Чикаго мне, действительно, можете абсолютно поверить. По-русски, жителей Чикаго зовут чикаговцы. И этому тоже можете поверить, как эксперту.
Берусь угадать про Осло - Ословское, ословчане. Могу спросить подругу, которая там жила 17 лет.

Ну, если только в комментариях на LT. А в жизни, в разговорной речи: чикаговец и чикаговка. Вообще, стремятся избежать подобных переводов в целом, и в русскоязычной периодике и СМИ называют ‘жители/житель/жительница Чикаго’.

I enjoyed the banter about how Russians decline a Chicago native. I have to admit, I don't even know what we call them in English. Chicagan? Chicagoian? Chicagite? I have no idea. I think most just say, "I'm from Chicago." LOL. It's the same here in New Mexico (it's a State, it's not in the country of Mexico). We sometimes call ourselves "New Mexicans" but it sounds really stupid. So, most of us just say, "I'm from New Mexico", so people won't think that we recently moved to Mexico. :/
I don't guess the Odessa jokes. I hope you laughed at them. I probably would, but I don't understand the reference. I'm guessing people from Odessa speak Russian as horribly as I do? I have no idea.

I find it amazing that you know that! Most Chicagoans (if you're right, and I trust you) are so stand-off-ish that they never talk to anyone that they don't already know. I've been to Chicago twice, and the only people who would speak to me were those who had to (because it was their job) at a hotel or restaurant, and other visitors, who were just as lost as I was. Since you know so much about Chicago, how can you get to the lower level where the garbage and delivery trucks go? I need to know that for when I go to Chicago the next time, because that's where all the liquor stores are. Not saying I'm a drunk. But, I don't think that's a big secret to anyone who's ever read my Russian translations. ;)

There are still some errors, Phil:
S1L6 потому что это, что ей не нужно. -> потому что это то, что ей не нужно. (потому что это ей не нужно as a shorter equivalent)
S2L1 Людим->Люди
S2L3 голодным -> злым (angry)
S2L5 или Вы слишком слепы, чтобы видеть?-> literally, it's correct but we wouldn't ever say so in Russian. We would normally say Или мы совсем ослепли и уже не видим
S5L1 И одной ночью->И в одну из ночей (when we say ночью it works like a mass noun implying there shouldn't be any numeral around)
S5L3 попупает -> покупает
S6L1 голодный -> злой (angry again)

↑↓
