Guð Náði Gleymda [God Help The Outcasts]

God help the forgotten

I don’t know if you can hear me
nor if you’re near me at all
I don’t know if you’re listening,
here is a gypsy.

I know that here I am banished
not worthy of your holy lady
in spite of my ignorance I ask
weren’t you also prejudged?

God help the forgotten, the ones staving to death
show mercy to them who are miserable here,
God protect the people that know who you are
all of the outcasts that no one here protects.

I pray for wealth and a little fame
I pray for glory and funds,
I pray for love that all will gain from,
I pray that our god’s angels will bless me.

I ask for nothing, there’s nothing I want
but I know so many that need your support,
help the people that want your protection
because we are all the children of God.

God help the forgotten, god’s own children...

They had to water it down for children I suppose, I was just discussing the movie with my brother last month and re-reading the book together again. Surprisingly, I only love the movie because of the songs :)

I never really saw it that way (because my parents and my upbringing were glaringly different then most my same age). It was burningly obvious that something wasn't right about the movie, it was awkward as hell (especially at the ending). I don't even think my parents saw the movie until many years after I saw it, I could ask them now what they think of it and they'd tell you "It's a nice story to read to a child, but no so much". My child self asked "But despite Esmeralda accepting Quasimodo for who he was on the inside and didn't make a fuss about his outer appearance like everyone else, why did she end up with Phoebus? Because he fits all the criteria of a well suited partner for her? (handsome, strong, etc. everything Quasimodo wasn't at first)". What kind of lesson did they try to teach? I thought it was "appearances don't matter, it's what's on the inside that counts", guess I was wrong.
