Square 1

What happened to you
What happened to me myself
We promised to love each other forever
When did the wind change, when were empty words born
When was it that we lost everything
'Cause without a word and without any longing
I believe that

We couldn't see, couldn't take us back to square one
The times change and suddenly you're standing there and looking
for someone you can have feelings for
Back to square one

We shared everything, we lived through each other
All of the big words that band us together
But what did your heart say, what did your inner voice say
Was it wrong to break free and turn away

'Cause without a word and without any longing
I believe that

We couldn't see, couldn't take us back to square one
The times change and suddenly you're standing there and looking
for someone you can have feelings for
Back to square one

We couldn't see, couldn't take us back to square one
The times change and suddenly you're standing there and looking
for someone you can have feelings for

Without a word and without any longing
We just stand here full of expectation
What happened to you
What happened to me myself
We promised to love each other forever
Without a word and without any longing

We couldn't see, couldn't take us back to square one
The times change and suddenly you're standing there and looking
for someone you can have feelings for
Back to square one (2x)

You are back to square one

"Vart tog du vägen vart tog jag vägen själv", it literally says "Where did you take the road to, where did I take the road to myself"

This is a really nice translation.
The word "förväntan" has a very positive undertone, whereas "regret" doesn't. Furthermore, they have quite a different meaning. An personal interpretation, perhaps?

Yeah, my bad. Is it okay now? What do you mean by different meaning? How do you understand it?

GuestGuest    Mar, 24/02/2015 - 08:22

This thing just caught my eye - if it is okay now is up to you.

I don't know if I understand your question correctly, but if
"förväntan" can be described with such words as "förhoppning", "hopp", "väntan", "förmodan", or in English most commonly as "(hopeful) anticipation"

and
"regret" can be described with words like "remorse", "sadness", "penitence",

then they have a different meaning, i.e. mean different things.

Did this answer you question?

Oh, no. That's not what I meant. I just thought when you said you thought they had a different meaning but maybe that was just personal interpretation, you were referring to the whole text. But thanks for the explanation anyway.
