La primavera

Versions: #1#2
Se della notte mia ti vestirai,
Se tu verrai e in me ti celerai,
Se nelle reti mie t'aggroviglierai,
Sappi che tu tradito non sarai.

Se della notte mia ti vestirai,
Se tu verrai e in me ti celerai,
Se nelle reti mie t'aggroviglierai,
Sappi che tu tradito non sarai.

Sarà come la bella stagion,
Sarà come in cielo adorazion,
Sarà come una bella stagion
Che a un tratto vien.

Sarà come la bella stagion,
Sarà come in cielo adorazion,
Sarà come una bella stagion
Che a un tratto vien.

Se per i venti aperti noi sarem,
Se a quello che viviam fedeli sarem,
Se dall'amor legati noi sarem,
Come giardini sospesi noi sarem.

Sarà come la bella stagion,
Sarà come in cielo adorazion,
Sarà come una bella stagion
Che a un tratto vien.

Sarà come la bella stagion,
Sarà come in cielo adorazion,
Sarà come una bella stagion
Che a un tratto vien.

Sarà come la bella stagion,
Sarà come in cielo adorazion,
Sarà come una bella stagion
Che a un tratto vien.

Wow i just hope Sophia Vossou sings this italian version of the song one day!
It sounds perfect! Metered, rhyming, equirithmic and above all is a totally correct translation!

MickGMickG    پنج‌شنبه, 21/10/2021 - 13:58

Not quite equirhythmic as there are three places («Se nelle reti mie t'aggroviglierai», «Se a quello che viviam fedeli sarem», and «Come giardini sospesi noi sarem») where I added extra syllables, but definitely singable and rhyming.

I wish I could have used "primavera" in the chorus instead of "bella stagion", which on its own could be summer (beautiful season - cfr. καλοκαίρι), but the rhyme prevented that. The other unfortunate event is that the repetition of Αν έρθεις in verse 1 was lost in the Italian, where only l. 2 has "Se verrai".

I'll be recording this this weekend btw. Keep an eye on my Youtube :).

There are "di colpo". "d'un tratto", and "d'un colpo", plus the now pretty much obsolete (AFAIC) "d'emblée" and "d'acchito", all of which mean "all of a sudden" and could stretch the second syllable over the notes of ξαφνι-, but something about them doesn't feel right. "Tutto a un tratto" may do. I guess I could fit all of "tutto" on the note of στα, and then trat- stretches over ξαφνι- and -to matches -κά.

Sarà come la bella stagion,
solo per noi

...hmm it sounds good i guess

...is not the same meaning of course but there are not so many consonants in the way

MickGMickG    سه‌شنبه, 02/11/2021 - 11:17

I came up with my own solution in the end:

Sarà come una bella stagion | Θα' ναι σαν μια καλή εποχή | It will be like a beautiful season
Che a un tratto vien | Που ξαφνικά έρχεται | That comes all of a sudden

Και μιας και είσαι Ιταλός επίτρεψέ μου να βάλω το παρακάτω που είναι από τον κορυφαίο Ιταλό μουσικοσυνθέτη ο οποίος έφυγε πριν από λίγο καιρό, είναι από το τρίτο αριστούργημα της τριλογίας του Sergio Leone και από τη σκηνή όπου ο Tuco μετά από μία Οδύσσεια σχεδόν τριών ωρών της ταινίας φτάνει στο κοιμητήριο του θλιμμένου Λόφου, ενδεικτικά αναφέρω κάποιο σχόλιο από τα χιλιάδες στο YouTube: "I can't believe this scene is 4 minutes of a man running in circles but somehow the most epic scene I've ever watched" εγώ θα προσέθετα πως δεν είναι από τη γη, αυτό θα ακούσεις όταν διαβαίνεις τις πύλες του ουρανού και οι άγγελοι θα σε καλωσορίζουν"! Why thank you!
As a matter of fact, I did not take orthophony. I constructed my Greek accent from the phonetic description on Wikipedia, as I did with many other languages I sing in on my channel.
Let's have a look at that video… btw, I assume «έφυγε πριν από λίγο καιρό» means he just died? Just to be sure. My Greek is still pretty weak, even despite having done a whopping 24 Greek songs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFbq3Gq6yRI&list=PL-gpEY57M1Bn__6jwmmoTn...), plus those I haven't recorded (cfr. https://michelegorini.blogspot.com/2019/05/index-by-languages.html) :).

This is what makes a translation a special one, in my opinion. This freedom to choose the most equivalent expression, carrying the same images and sentiments. If we wanted word to word translation we could have used GT.

Yeah, is a metaphor for someone who has died.

I saw and heard all this (not all), Tongue smile you sing very well in Greek and especially very clearly, believe me there are in Greece in various villages that speak Greek and you don't understand what they say, the utterance changes and the language becomes more idiomatic.

Me and [@Flora Lama] have dealt with a song (which is going to appear on the list at some point) by, as Nick Nicholas on Quora dubbed them, "Our Ladies of Appalling Diction": https://lyricstranslate.com/en/androula-toumazou-kalogeropoulou-ti%CC%81.... There is also another song by these ladies: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/thanos-thrapsiadis-genni%CC%81%CC%B1thi%C.... I think I know what you're talking about :).

PS I've also done some translations into Greek, as Flora knows well :). For the moment I only recorded this one with a plethora of rhymes, which went through 3 remakes before reaching its final form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB9lgknL_8U. Warning: 21min video.

Yes, in that case the problem was not " cypriot accent" as i have pointed out, is a matter of "poor articulation" of the singer. And as in many languages, there are people who do not speak clearly. Cypriot singers do not have any problem when singing in standard greek. When it comes to speaking, well....this is another story....

Flora LamaFlora Lama

Of course, since i speak with this accent, perhaps i do not notice the differences when i hear a cypriot singer, singing in standard greek. But i have noticed that we are " more careful" when we sing.

nikalikasnikalikas    شنبه, 06/11/2021 - 23:13
