Seems to be rather catalan? Someone would like have an English translation of it, but was not able to put in a proper request...

I guess this song is by Cesaria Evora, the part similar to Catalan is actually Creoule Portuguese Regular smile

Thx, lol, meanwhile I thought it could be Galician...
Now I had a look on wiki, there are indeed dozens of these portuguese creoles, but some of them are extinct (especially in southern asia)

It's Cape-verdian, by the way Regular smile

Hi,

I have some information that might help. Some of the lyrics - the ones sung by Salif Keita - are a Malian language callled Bambara. My ex-husband knows a bit and used to translate for me.

Some of the lyrics are miswritten above. Some is French with Bambara following, for example:

Xurin né bi feu J t’aim

Cheree, ne bi feu, Je t'aime

As far as I remember, ne bi feu is "I love you" and ne ti feu is "I hate you" - or something similar.

Bottom line, I would ask someone Malian who speaks Bambara to translate this song (I hear some surrounding countries speak it as well). I think Cesaria Evoria's lyrics are likely Brazillian Portuguese. There is some French mixed in with the chorus and Salif Keita's words, but a Malian will likely speak French as well.

Again, I think that the lyrics above are poorly transcribed, so you might want to ask them to listen and transcribe for you.

Hope this helps.

This song has been a pain in the neck for so long, and no one has come out to solve it. Evora's part is in Cape-Verdian, a variant from Portuguese, which seems not quite clear to me either, so I can't even try to traslate it Sad smile

I added Cesária Évora as featuring artist.

I tried to clean up the lyrics a little bit, putting everything in the right order as it is sung and correcting a few spelling errors but I think there are still some errors.
Lyrics as they were before:

Je t’aime mi amoré menebêff fie

Hey guys, Cesaria's part is sung in Cape Verdean Creole and here's my attempt at a roughly English translation.

I have faith, yes I have faith
That we will live without fear and more confident,
in a brighter era
The look of our children will again shine of innocence
And admist their screams
The storm might slow down, in mildness and calm
Our love shall rest from its struggle and resistance
To survive in this storm, in mildness and calm
Our love shall rest from its struggle and resistance
To survive in this storm...

Bô é nha dizafiu, é dimás
You are my challenge, it's too much.

Bô é tude nha fé na paz
You are all my faith in peace.
