Antiboy - Devil

anglais
A A

Devil

Drag me down to your level
Where you can always feel better
About yourself, to turn me into a rebel
Resenting you, writing these letters

I know you can be so sweet,
But it feels like I gotta work for it
Something that I gotta beg out of you
My heart ceases

Take a seat, take a seat
You're so weary, Johnny
So sit down
But I seek the fate and
The glory of this empty sound

You shine the devil into me
You shine the devil into me
No pretty lover can break free
You shine the devil into me
Devil, devil

Miserable, so why not make me too?
With a panic, so invincible,
It's only black and blue
We were invincible, no God could give you that
First time, we were whimsical
"it was only this hard," you spat

Take a seat, take a seat
You're so weary, Johnny
So sit down
But I seek the fate and
The glory of this empty sound

You shine the devil into me
You shine the devil into me
No pretty lover can break free
You shine the devil into me
Devil, devil

You shine the devil
You shine the devil into me
You shine the devil
You shine the devil into me

This time you won't recover
This time, you won't

"the glory of this empty sound" sounds pretty correct to me.
"miserable so why not make me too?" he could mean "you're miserable so you make me miserable too"

I wasn't really sure about the "you shine the devil into me" lines because that doesn't really make sense, though.

at first, i thought it could mean something like "you bring out the devil in me" but i don't really know. or "you show the devil to me" kind of like introducing, i'm just guessing at this point. Regular smile

Yeah, fair enough. It's just not commonly said in English at all. But I think "you bring out the devil in me" is the best interpretation of this line! Thanks Regular smile
