I'm starting to realize now that there were a lot more magical girl animes than just Sailor Moon 😒

And Emily forgot to mention Asagiri no miko.
Believe it or not, I fansubbed it in French Teeth smile Very cute and funny.

Ah well sorry, I thought it was a bit older.

Zarina01Zarina01    Sam, 10/11/2018 - 18:30

It's alright, If I make a 2000's anime list I'll add that to the list Regular smile

Zarina01Zarina01    Dim, 11/11/2018 - 03:15

Also, how were you able to fansub all these different anime's in french? Can you speak japanese?

ingirumimusnocteingirumimusnocte    Lun, 12/11/2018 - 12:28

No no, we were just translating back US stuff Teeth smile
I did learn a few hundred words and some very basic grammar in the process, but nothing that would allow me to say I speak the language.
And I only actually fansubbed 3. Plus it was a team effort. I was doing the translation but other people did timing, proofreading, encoding, etc.

I know this has nothing to do with anything, but wasn't there a thing with Sailor Moon having a lesbian couple but they had to censor it on TV so they made them cousins so now they were incestuous cousins?

Zarina01Zarina01    Ven, 23/11/2018 - 12:05

Ah yes the infamous "lesbian couple" debacle, Well you're partially right. This was back when the 90's were still pretty bigoted towards gay people, so yes they censored their relationship in the english dub and made them cousins, but they were just supposed to be portrayed as having a close sisterly relationship and not an incestous one (although you would certainly never get that impression from some of the dialogue between them)

Zarina01Zarina01    Dim, 11/11/2018 - 03:17

And I would also just like to point out that the english dubbers weren't the only ones who censored their relationship, in most countries that dubbed the show in their language they had to censor them as being either, sisters, close friends, cousins etc...

As far as I recall, in Brazil they changed this as well.

The very first Magical Girl Anime was called Sally the Witch way back in 1966. But many credit Sailor Moon for helping popularise the genre. (Sorry I took so long to reply back. I wasn't sure if the work on this website was finished yet)

Sailor PokeMoon2Sailor PokeMoon2    Dim, 11/11/2018 - 02:47

And don't even get me started on censorship for Sailor Moon Stars either

Many countries re dubbed Sailor Moon and kept the lesbian stuff intact. Like the new Viz Media English dub and the CHAMP Korean dub.

Robin Hood!!!!

Zarina01Zarina01    Lun, 12/11/2018 - 13:31

I had no idea until now that there was an anime based off of Robin Hood 😁

Zarina01Zarina01    Ven, 23/11/2018 - 12:07

And now apparently there was also an anime based off of Zorro 😊

Sailor PokeMoon2Sailor PokeMoon2    Jeu, 15/11/2018 - 23:13

And an Anime based off of Peter Pan, Hackberry Finn, Tom Sawyer (not by Rush), Little Women but I am not sure if any of those were made in the '90s

There is an Anime made in the '90s called The Van Trapp Family (maybe without the "The" part?) But it's probably better known as The Sound of Music.

Sailor PokeMoon2Sailor PokeMoon2    Sam, 17/11/2018 - 05:19

I just remembered another Magical Girl Anime series that apparently did not do very well in Japan but did better in other countries. This Anime is as '90s as you can get. It is called Corrector Yui. It had 2 seasons and a manga series but both the music from the series (especially the lyrics) are VERY hard to find.

Zarina01Zarina01    Lun, 22/07/2019 - 02:25

Actually that anime came out in the 80's

SilentRebel83SilentRebel83    Lun, 22/07/2019 - 04:01

Oh, my bad Zarina. So it was in syndication by the time I had watched them in the early 90's.
