Plesure, Plovdiv is one of the most beautiful cities in Bulgaria, and the second largest after Sofia. It is also the oldest inhabited city in Europe, since its origin dates back to 4,000 years BC. It is 6,000 years old, if I remember well. Macedonians, Thracians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Goths, Huns, Byzantines, Ottomans have passed through there and left their mark... If you go someday to Bulgaria I I recommend you to visit Plovdiv

wisigothwisigoth    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 17:29

Simple test
✓old, ancient, there are records, data etc
✓has been known for 1001 + years
🙁still an active municipality today

wisigothwisigoth    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 20:56

х. sorry my mistake 79 AD. В 1891 г н.э.

Pompei
Pompei,

wisigothwisigoth    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 21:37

wisigothwisigoth    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 22:19

"место проклятое" Помпеи(((боги сожгли за что-то (за грехи?)
"место силы" Мексика ))) боги требовали, чтобы именно там, на этом самом острове, люди жили и приносили жертвы, в благодарность )) как-то так

Dr_IgorDr_Igor    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 22:38

То бишь в коллекцию берете только что боги одобряли. А что, тоже критерий...
И вообще против них как то не рекомендуется быть...

Alma BarrocaAlma Barroca    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 19:26

One and only Mod warning: some content regarding this collection was reported to us. Please calm down and stick to the original point of discussion (songs about ancient cities) else comments will be temporarily disabled to allow users to cool down. My PMs are open if anyone wants to say something.

Eagles HunterEagles Hunter    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 19:33

I personally welcome your interfering and I wouldn't mind you delete ALL comments drafted away from the main subject of the collection. Regular smile

Dr_IgorDr_Igor    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 19:45

I don't think the Mods can selectively delete comments. It's all or nothing. So I am asking those who is not currently suggesting new cities, just shut up, at least temporarily, so the collection owner does not lose suggestions...

Alma BarrocaAlma Barroca    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 19:56

After discussion regarding a specific recent case, Admins allowed us to unpublish comments that violate the rules. However, we are discussing about being tougher regarding off-topic comments.

Alma BarrocaAlma Barroca    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 20:37

I agree. FYI I myself suggested including a 'keep politics away wherever it is not needed' extension to the guideline Admins are discussing about implementing.

Dr_IgorDr_Igor    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 21:31

Just be careful with what you qualify as off-topic. When people discuss politics, sometimes it is on-topic because it is tied to history, including the history of languages. And also if a mod makes changes in the text of the comments we would like to know who that mod is so we can
assess if he/she is qualified to judge, i.e native in the language, etc.

Alma BarrocaAlma Barroca    Jeu, 29/10/2020 - 23:40

If it is unrelated to the content of translation/collection/lyrics, it's off-topic.

Quote:

And also a mod makes changes in the text of the comments we would like to know who that mod is so we can

Even if we do not speak the language in question, most times users who do speak them come ask for corrections, so we can come and edit content anyway. If we were to restrict edits only to Mods who speak a given language, the Japanese section of the website would be a wasteland, as we don't have any Japanese speaker in the staff, not even an Editor (EDIT: We do have one, however it's not a native). And users who add whichever page was corrected are always notified about updates, you don't have to worry about that.

Dr_IgorDr_Igor    Ven, 30/10/2020 - 00:17

Come on. I challenge you to define "unrelated". There's a range of opinions on that. Don't assume that yours is always correct.

And regardless who you choose to change the comments - native or not native, do you have a problem with making it public who that
person was? We'll take it from there. Notify everybody, not just the originator of the page.

Alma BarrocaAlma Barroca    Ven, 30/10/2020 - 00:25

Unrelated: not related to anything regarding content of translation, lyrics, etc.

Example: User leaves a comment 'No surprise this singer was arrested'. What does this have to do with anything? Same here, it all started with a language discussion then escalated to racism, religion, etc. So, off-topic.

Quote:

Do you have a problem with making it public who that person was? We'll take it from there. Notify everybody, not just the originator of the page

But everyone is already notified, the comments left are always public, so whoever wants to see who did what just needs to go to 'Recent comments'. Oh, and BTW, we stopped making who last edited a page public after a Mod had their account hacked and at least 1000 pages were unpublished (all fortunately restored). Before anyone knew what happened we had at least 3 threads by different users pointing fingers and demanding (yes, that was the word) an explanation. Then when the truth was shown, did anyone come and say 'Oh, sorry for that, hope all is fine'? No. It was only us Mods who did it. There's so much going on behind the scenes but some users seem to think that we have a WhatsApp group where we discuss evil deeds we'll take.

And now I'd like to ask you: Why would someone that has nothing to do with a specific page like/want to know which action was done by whom? Are we in Big Brother or some kind of reality show where people vote for us to be expelled in case they disagree with us? That doesn't work here, if people want something like that they're my guests to look for it elsewhere.

I just would like to understand what has happened with LT recently. Just today I had to take care of 3 different situations with users. I'll ask Admins to give me a badge, I think I deserve one.

Dr_IgorDr_Igor    Ven, 30/10/2020 - 00:49

I don't want to beat the dead horse here. In the end we'll have to trust your(Mods) better judgement, That's why I'd like to know who that mod
was. Every once in a while there will be a mod whose judgement should not be trusted and we'll help you guys to get that person out of your
ranks. We are not angels, you ( guys) are not angels, let's not pretend that it is completely unimaginable.
When I said "everybody", I meant everybody, who visits the page where "censorship" has taken place. When I read a thread of comments
I'd like to know that some comments are missing and then I'd like to know whose comments are missing and who took them out...
And I fully appreciate the difficulty of your position.

And in your example "singer was arrested" I can give a bunch of potential situations where that could be very relevant to at least the understanding of the lyrics. I'd prefer if you guys stick to racism/anti-semitism and things like that...

Alma BarrocaAlma Barroca    Ven, 30/10/2020 - 13:13

It's not up for general users to debate on whether a staff member should or should not retain their position (and it's not them who decide who should be promoted as well) - and honestly, based on what judgment would a user say a Mod is suitable or not for a position? 'Oh, this Mod has disabled comments here, so I think he's doing something he shouldn't so he is to be expelled?' - not how it works. You can always speak your mind and say someone did something you disagree with, but as we've said elsewhere, we keep tracks and logs of just about everything we do, so you must have a very strong case in that case. I've rebuked several accusations users threw against me just by showing them my own Edits log. One has even accused me of acting in vendetta after they corrected one of my translations. After I showed them consistent evidence of why their translations had been unpublished, did this user ever say I'm sorry? No.

I left the team for a while at my own will in 2014, ever since I'm here still. Never seen a single Mod being demoted.. So that shows that we're doing a good job as a whole team. Thanks, but we don't need your help or judgment. If someone was promoted to Mod, we decided based on their interactions and contributions - if we have the slightest hint that a potential candidate will cause problems, we write them off. And even if we do disagree with our fellows' actions, we do discuss it very reasonably and showing arguments. Of course we're not friends, but we're workplace colleagues (at least, that's how I treat and respect my fellows).

I'd also like to show a few of our own set of rules (Yes, we have them as well, just so people know that we're not acting as we wish):

Quote:

1. Both Editors and Moderators should obey the rules invented for an ordinary user.
2. Both Editors and Moderators should be polite with users, avoid rudeness. Everyone has to maintain good and peaceful communication with the other members of the community and not to provoke other users unnecessarily; if a problem between different users arises, then either a Mod or the admins should be notified about it so it can get resolved.
3. Any admonishments Editors and Moderators make should be based on existing rules, or, at least, on common sense basis.
4. Any controversial actions they make should be based on existing rules or on previously discussed with fellow editors/moderators and administrators.

So basically it shows that everyone who has ever been promoted (even to Editor) has proven to been trustworthy and reliable enough, follow every rule (no exceptions) and know how to deal with issues and people.

And here you go, this is an off-topic comment and discussion Tongue smile

I'm glad that you like it Regular smile It's one of my favorites Greek song; Athens is beautiful. Cádiz.... What can I say about this beautiful city? Is a lovely city. In fact, all Andalusia (also all Spain) is: their songs, their culture. Really lovely places to visit. Tiblisi, Georgia and all the Caucassus I've been (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan) are the most beautiful countries. The mountains, the cities, the villages, the languages and cultures, the food (I drool everytime I think about khachapuri), just everything. I hope I can return again to this country sometime in the future along with its neighbours, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and hope one day I could visit the other Caucasus republics in Russia
