О, и как пчеловод пчеловоду, шмель - это не пчела 🤣🥰
Не знаю, не знаю.
Женя тут от женского имени поёт: "Коль я б её не сорвала"
Didn’t notice judging what you’ve been writing, Philippe 🙄
All three Russian translations are missing a point. Everyone assumed, that only a poor pilgrim somehow new the rose. In fact the rose is a pilgrim(страница), and that's why nobody knows her (it).
I also couldn't understand clearly what the pilgrim had to to here. I also supposed that the rose was compared to a pilgrim, but actually I never saw a rose going on a pilgrimage. Sure, she "took it from the ways", but usuallly a rosebush has roots, while a pilgrim hasn't.
Except for Irula, who cleverly avoided the line making it into Тихо жила бы себе, as Anatoly said, there’s a misunderstood line:
It might a pilgrim be — it, the rose, might have been a pilgrim [a traveler or wanderer, especially in a foreign place. an original settler in a region] — bottom line, the rose was plucked.
But the word "pilgrim" is normally associated with the idea of travellling, wandering (for religious reasons). How can a rose be compared with a pilgrim ? The only possible analogy I can see is that the rose was growing "on the ways" (so it's a wild rose), but even so, such roses are growing along the path, not in the middle of it. Why not comparing it with a cosmonaut or a submariner? o:) (or a small rabbit).
Term has a Historical meaning here.
Rose is personified as a pilgrim. It is clearly one of the pilgrims.
This seems questionable to me. Anyway, even it it were about one of the first "Pilgrims" (which I doubt), I can hardly see the analogy, or the point. This seems more reasonable to me :
"The speaker speculates that this little rose might be "a pilgrim" for it was growing away from other flower beds."
The rest of the text seems, for once, quite understandable.
But are there other examples where Emily makes references to the history of the United States? I think she was much more preoccupied by her own moral, philosophical and sentimental thoughts. She was a poet after all (and even more, a nevrotic female poetess)... And BTW, when referring to the historical "pilgrims", one usually uses a capital letter (the Pilgrims, the Pilgrim Fathers). But the main point is that, except for that very word, "pilgrim", the meaning of the poem is exceptionnally clear, while if you begin to mix the first immigrants in it, it seems not to mean anything any more.
Dudes, have you ever grown roses?
Rose is personified as a pilgrim.
Pilgrims arrived in America and clearly she is making a reference to them.
https://www.multitran.com/m.exe?l1=1&l2=2&s=pilgrim&langlist=2
Тогда я стал смотреть англоязычные страницы Гугла, забив в поисковой строке слова meaning (или definition) of pilgrim и нашел нечто похожее - в частности, в Oxford Dictionary:
(с пометой "literary") A person regarded as journeying through life.
И пример: "we should recognize our status as mere pilgrims in this world".

Теперь всё становится на свои места. В соответствии с этим исправлю и свой перевод.
It could be a climbing rose, the one with smaller blooms. This variety just spreads all over any surface.

Here is my thesis -
Nobody knows this little rose ---> Not even poet herself in the beginning
It might a pilgrim be ---> Now Poet becomes a little certain that it's a Pilgrim
Did I not take it from the ways ---> Had died on reaching new shores
And lift it up to thee -----> Had died on reaching new shores
Only a bee will miss it ---> People back home are missing them
Only a butterfly -----> People back home are missing them
Hastening from far journey ---> Clearly was a pilgrim
On its breast to lie ------> Journey took a toll
Only a bird will wonder ---> Animals on new shores are wondering
Only a breeze will sigh ----> Nature too wondering
Ah, little rose, how easy
For such as thee to die! ----> Everyone thinking the journey was easy and wondering how you could die because none knows the pain and the hardship of a pilgrim.
Bravo!
