Hamid Hiraad - Enferadi (traduction en anglais)

Solitary confinement

Shame on me if you spend your night with others
Shame on me if you pass another alleyway*
Every time someone falls for you I get distressed
What have you done to my solicitous heart
x2
My whole body, cell by cell, has become a solitary confinement
I am a prisoner trapped inside myself
My whole body, cell by cell, has become a solitary confinement
I am a prisoner jailed inside myself
Every night, I alone wander in the street,
tired of this feeling which is tearing me apart
I neglected you and I left you with those "others"
I left your alleyway but I was still concerned and worried
I forgave you and what you did to me belongs to the past**
Now stay with others, I feel bad for those others...**

Commentaires de l’auteur(e) :

* It is a poetic metaphor (usually used for girls/women, and it is told to them by the lover), passing another's alleyway means not paying attention to someone who loves them and having feelings for "another" man
** These are two of the most beautiful line of poems in Persian contemporary literature, and they do not belong to this song, in fact they are composed years ago by a famous poet called Shahryar. The reason poet is feeling bad for those "others" is that he knows what happened to him, like the pain he endured and the broken love he experienced, is going to happen to those "others" too. Therefore, the reason is not envy or jealousy or not caring. The reason is sympathy, and that's what makes the poem emotional, unique, and beautiful
