Generation 78

I know all your songs
Your choruses sing deep in my heart
They come to my mind you know no matter the season
And they take me on a trip down memory lane

Like before more than before I will love you
For the life I'll give you my life
Every day every moment
I will tenderly tell you

Gondolier do you remember?
The naked feet on your gondola

I know all yours songs
They have lulled me every moment of my childhood
Today once I hear them
They take me on a trip down memory lane

Flying oh oh
Singing oh oh oh oh
In the blue painted blue
Happy to be up there

You are romantic, romantic and bohemian
You get defensive about it sometimes but I know
I know all that, I know all that and it's because of that

I will wait day and night
I will always wait for your return

All all all all all all
All the songs
Have gone through time without ever aging
From generation to generation
We will sing them as soon as we will want to
Go on a trip down memory lane

Goodbye sir it's all over
Leave me and start a new life
I would prefer the wild flower
You would prefer the

Words words words
Words words words
Words words words
Words words words words
Words and more words

Drowned in blue under the Greek sky
One boat, two boats, three boats
Run along singing
Scratching the sky, pecking it out
One bird, two birds, three birds
Bring good weather
Bye bye baby girl
Tell me I love you
For the last, last time

To love you madly my love
To love you madly night and day
To love you madly night and day

The day when the rain will come
We will be you and me

It's the song of the stray who have no bounds
It's the fervent prayer of the Gypsies Night

I have sung all the songs
They will be tomorrow you can trust me
The choruses sung by others
In order to build other memories

Gigi the sweetheart arrives
"It's you there in the dark"
Love seeker, seductive eyes
Like a stroke
Gigi the sweetheart
Always winner sometimes heartless
But never without tenderness
Never without tenderness

He had just turned 18 years old
He was beautiful like a child
Strong like a man
He didn't speak of love to me
He said that words of love
Are pathetic

And strum strum your mandolin
My little Baby Boy
Your music is prettier than Italy's whole sky
And sing sing with your affectionate voice
My little Baby Boy
Baby Boy, Baby Boy, Baby Boy, Baby Boy

Salama ya salama
I will come back from Salama
Salama ya salama
Baby Boy

LOL some gremlin got its paw stuck in the annotations

at the bottom of my heart -> that's very common in French, just like "deep in my heart", but I wonder if that's the same in English

Ils me reviennent -> the "me" changes the meaning for "I recall them" or "they come to mind"
"ça me revient" is like "I remember it now"

Et me font partir dans les souvenirs -> that's not exactly idiomatic, but that's similar to "take a trip down memory lane"
"they set me on a trip down memory lane" maybe?

Les pieds nus -> that just means "barefoot" here

bercé ... mon enfance / ma jeunesse -> that's a typical expression for songs you have fond childhood (or youth) memories of.
I don't know an English equivalent, but the meaning is rather idiomatic than literal

le jour et la nuit -> day and night
For some reason you seem to use a lot of "the"s in this translation. Or is it just me?

S'en vont chantant -> run along/are off singing
This "verb + participle" form is used only in poetry, but it matches the English meaning

might and day -> typo

Have went through time -> Apparently this is becoming common since the 90's (an Internet blessing among many?), but I wouldn't imagine Dalida using non standard French :)

Elles seront demain ... les refrains... -> one "there" too many (choruses is what they will be)

dérisoires -> not quite "meaningless". More like "so insignificant/inadequate you can't take it seriously"
For instance a "solution dérisoire" would be a pitifully inadequate solution.
"pathetic" or "piddling" maybe?

I did notice that my annotations were multiplied somehow (each one appeared like three times), but I think I fixed it. Is there still an issue?

  • "les pieds nus", I can see why it means "barefoot" but I'm not really sure how to use it here. Any suggestions?
  • "bercé chaque instant de mon enfance" - I think there's no accurate English equivalent, so I went literal on this one.
  • "have went through time" - I don't use it much either (maybe sometimes when I speak), so I don't know how I ended up using it here.
  • "J'ai chanté toutes tes chansons / Elles seront demain tu peux me faire confiance" - I didn't really get the meaning of that lyric.

I corrected everything else. This translation was exhausting, to be honest. Thanks!  :)
