Smokie - Living Next Door To Alice Original song |
New World - Living Next Door To Alice Original song by first performer |
Good afternoon, Cosenza!
Thanks for your message, and sorry for the late reply! :)
Please, allow me to start by saying that your Spanish is close to excellent, and the mistakes that you've made arise from the fact that this song's lyrics are a rather disastrous attempt to follow the original English text. Please, also note that I have corrected the Spanish lyrics to give them a bit more coherence.
Without further ado, here are my corrections. :)
Chorus (lines 3 - 4) :
I was resolved
To declare my love to her
The expression 'I had decided to declare my love to her' would have been correctly translated if the Spanish line had been "Había decidido declararle mi amor". In Spanish, "estar decidido a" would correspond to 'Be resolved to' in English or "estar determinado a" in Portuguese.
Chorus (lines 8 - 11) :
For many years, I've kept silent
Since I've been in love with her
For a very long time...
I can see why you've been confused by these lines, because the text has been very clumsily transliterated from the original English text and, grammatically, it is a complete disaster.
Second verse (lines 6 - 8) :
Now she is leaving and she probably won't be back...
With her hands, she is waving goodbye
And the car keeps moving further away...
Third verse :
I close my eyes
And start to cry
And my heart,
Begins to die...
Goodbye, Alice!
She's telling me that she's leaving
And you remain here;
You waited for so long
And she didn't hear from you
And the car, moves further away...
The only things that have changed here are the verbal times. Still, I must reiterate that it is easy to become confused with the lyrics, since they are idiosyncratic, to put it politely.
Well, I hope this helps!
Have a lovely afternoon! :)
