My Teacher

On the day when my light first love faded
The rain was softly falling
Hidden under an umbrella on the pier
I gazed alone and sobbed
My childish heart burning
The person I continued to adore was
My teacher, my teacher, was my teacher

I cried at the top of my lungs
At the ferry leaving me
The white lighthouse, like in a picture
Floated under the pounding rain
I can't tell anyone that, with sadness
The person whom my heart hurt for was
My teacher, my teacher, was my teacher

The happiness of being in love
Was gently taught to me by
My teacher, my teacher, by my teacher

Hello tonyl,
You understand the Japanese lyrics very well except on sentence.
悲しみ is a noun. The literal translation would be:
The name of the person for whom my heart ached with sadness about which I can tell no one is my teacher.

Here I suggest weep instead of cry

Here そっと means something like quietly or in secret.

Thank you very much, it's nice to hear :)

Yes, I actually wasn't sure what the 悲しみに meant, so I just wrote something there.
But I couldn't think of a better way to put it there (I want to keep the "the person who" thing intact).

I don't really like the word "weep," for some reason, makes it too sappy I guess, or should it be like that? m not sure.

I like "gently" there, it has that meaning of quietly(maybe even secretly) in it I think.
