Hello, I am "nokoryby". I translate songs from Japanese to English here sometimes. Whether you're a reader or fellow translator, feel free to contact me about anything, or to reach me elsewhere if you're interested in me and my work.
To my readers: when referencing or using my translations, always credit me, and also please inform me if you can! Especially when posting a translation in its entirety somewhere else; I've found my translations in lyric videos with tens of thousands of views each, or pasted into a highly-frequented wiki. Please, please just let me know! For 99% of cases, I won't have any reason to tell you no as long as you give credit; I'd just like you to run it by me.
Also, if you don't understand a line in my translation, or wonder what the meaning of a line could be, feel free to ask in a comment, and I'll try elaborating with my own thoughts, or maybe update it for clarity accordingly!
Unfortunately, unless it's an artist I already regularly translate, or something you think will absolutely be up my alley, I currently might ignore any direct requests for translations from a stranger.
To fellow translators: any comments about better phrasings, equivalents, etc. are very much appreciated – just don't feel the need to insist on minor things. As long as it's not coming to the point of harassment over personal preference, it's alright, but I've had an experience or two where someone vehemently insisted I changed one word over something subjective, and it was a little irritating. You can always feel free to translate the song yourself and give your own interpretation entirely, which I encourage! I think it's beneficial for readers to be able to see the words in more than one way.
Also, if you're a translator that doesn't understand Japanese, but does understand English and another language, and wants to translate a song into it by using my English translation, you should credit me and disclose that it's a translation of my English version. Because of the nature of Japanese song translations, a lot of the phrases and nuances that are unique to my English will be directly carried over to your rendition, and I have also done the initial work that enables you to translate. It's happened a couple times, but they were all understanding when I reached out to them, and were happy to add credit. Just something to keep in mind!
