The Shepherd's Friend

संस्करण: #1#2
- He said to me "hey boy, what is that you are singing... it's not northern*... if it was a song that you made up/wrote... let's hear it out loud... LOUD"

- I said "Being here, I noticed, not everyone is cool with you, but believe my, I like you and I am from here...from here I can see that you are the only one who isn't afraid... who is sword fighting with the knights, 3ainy 3alak 3ainy**"

CHORUS: He said to me "hey boy, what is that you are singing... it's not northern*... if it was a song that you made up... let's hear it out loud... LOUD"

- I said "Being here, I feel like people here are strong-headed/stubborn, and judge/don't like what I wear...and I am from here...
(he said:*)I, here, am at ease. The public's opinions are poisons. I don't like to quickly generalize, because I wouldn't like to be blamed (for generalized judgments).
I am not a sheikh (wise or religious man) or scholar...I just feel like there is a misunderstanding/dispute... and there are fools dragging us behind...but not today."

CHORUS: He said to me "hey boy, what is that you are singing... it's not northern*... if it was a song that you made up/wrote... let's hear it out loud... LOUD...LOUD"

I'm not entirely clear on what the song is about but I feel like it's about cultural differences in Egypt. The first clue is that the song is sung in the sa3idi accent. The Sa3id or "Upper Egypt" is in reality southern Egypt but due to old dubbing due to the Nile river and such, the name stuck. The sa3id region is rural; it's basically the countryside of Egypt. People there have a different accent and use different words compared to northern/city Egyptians (Cairo, Alexandria, etc.). The song seems to be a conversation between a "city folk" and a "shepherd". The shepherd asks the city guy to sing in the "odd" style he was singing in and they begin a conversation. The city guy is surprised that the shepherd didn't judge/criticize him like most of the people in the village. The shepherd responds that people have become too judgmental because they follow fools and don't speak for themselves. The title probably infers that they became acquaintances.

3ainy 3alak 3ainy is an outrageously context-based Egyptian expression, it can mean "I feel sorry for you" or "I'm watching your every move" or "you are good and all eyes are on you." In this case, it is the latter; it's a praise basically.
