Songs About Space/Astronomy

This collection is about space and astronomy songs, or astronomy/space related song titles. The picture belongs to Voyager 1 spacecraft. This golden phonograph record was attached to the Voyager 1 spacecraft that were launched almost 25 years ago. One of the purposes was to send a message to extraterrestrials who might find the spacecraft as the spacecraft journeyed through interstellar space. And still today, it's greetings to the universe in 55 different languages and playing different songs from all around the world. Voyager 1 is the first spacecraft to reach interstellar space although it was launched 16 days after its twin Voyager 2.

Thank you very much to everyone who helped me finish this collection. Regular smile

Hey, thanks for the suggestions again, but, I've already added Space Oddity's orginial version by David Bowie. Should I add this one? And by the way, this cover is just amazing. Chris Hadfield can be my favourite astronaut ever! Teeth smile

You're right, i should've think about the lyrics, thanks again!

ayda.jonasayda.jonas    शनि, 14/09/2019 - 08:51

Yeah, it's actually so sad to can't use an instrumental song, if I could do that, i would add all Hans Zimmer's Interstellar soundtracks...

And actually, I run out all my ideas for this collection since i added the 50th song, but i want to run out of ''space'' with everyone who interests in Space and Astronomy. Teeth smile

I agree, this sticks out like a sore thumb.

ayda.jonasayda.jonas    शुक्र, 11/10/2019 - 17:46

I had no idea about this situation, thanks for reporting it...

Read the comments in the author's comments and under my English translation of the song and you'll soon see how much a hater of it I am.
It just happens that this song isn't about space at all.
It's a gross and provocative criticism of bigotry and nationalism.
And it does stick out like a sore thumb here.

We've lost a great man today. A hero. He was the first to open the Door.
BTW, I remember another piece of punk, a bit milder, though, and not offending cosmonauts.

Mary is not a punk, just a cheeky naughty girl Regular smile

I checked the song but there is no English translation of it, so i tried to translate with my bad Russian and, I found quite cruel these lines;

Maybe I understood wrong, I'm still improving my Russian, so I would very blessed if you can explain the meaning behind this song...

This is a grotesque description of the attitude to space by the conservative part of modern Russia's population

Yes, but unfortunately you can suggest only one song. Regular smile

I can't speak Japanese nor translate it but I know enough to tell you it fits.

First: SL9, Shoemaker Levy 9 (your an astronomer so you likely know what that is)

94年の夏, Summer of 94, SL9 hit on 1994 on a June which is summer

21個の光が何度も映し出されて, 21 lights reflected over and over (many times also works), SL9 was broken up into 21 separate pieces,

聞いたことのない名前の彗星が急降下して , A comet whom's name i've never heard has plummeted, The comet that became SL9 was found on accident

画面に入りきらない木星に衝突したんだ, It collided with a Jupiter that could not fit on the screen, 木星 means Jupiter and as we all know SL9 impacted Jupiter

What a beautiful & meaningful song to finish this collection! Thank you very much for suggestion. Regular smile

Your welcome. Since you refered to the song as "meaningful" and "beautiful" do you have some knowledge of the language?

ayda.jonasayda.jonas    बुध, 18/03/2020 - 11:44

I don't know Japanese, a friend of mine helped me to translate that song. Regular smile

Oh also do you know Japanese.

I went through your account and I see you translated a Japanese song into Turkish
