Mick est tout seul - Encore (अंग्रेज़ी में अनुवाद)

अंग्रेज़ी में अनुवाद

Still

They say that little by little the bird makes its nest 1
and that when it’s all over the audience claps. 2
To avoid losing our appetite let’s keep on being idiots
hating ourselves with a passion because it’s paradise.
They say that politicians are amnesiacs and that not all Americans come from America
They’re not killers, you mustn’t believe the critics
They’ll come and shake you by the hand if you give them some cash

It’s still a beautiful day
and we ignore all the wrongdoing.
It’s still a radiant night
and we turn a blind eye to all that’s bad.

It’s often said that you mustn’t speak to strangers
and that neither the wicked nor the virtuous can wipe away the bitterness
But when something unexpected comes back to bite us in the arse
That’s when the party’s over and we’re left feeling naked
We know that there are lands where life is cheap
but as we’re a bit perverted we do business there
and because we don’t care about others we bury them
at the speed of light we forget we are brothers

It’s still a beautiful day
and we ignore all the wrongdoing.
It’s still a radiant night
and we turn a blind eye to all that’s bad.

It’s still a beautiful day
and we ignore all the wrongdoing.
It’s still a radiant night
and we turn a blind eye to all that’s bad.

  • 1. This is a french expression that just means something is achieved in many small steps - one step at a time
  • 2. This sounds like it might be an expression but I can’t find any evidence that it is!

I quite like your translation. It captures the ideas pretty well.

"le vice et la vertu" are traditionally opposed. It's the case in the movie, but it's more general than that.

resurgit -> I rather understand that as "comes back with a vengeance" (something you tried to repress/hide coming back at you)

Thanks! Regular smile

I guess the vice and virtue line just means "bad things happen, good things happen too but the bitterness remains"

Yes "comes back with a vengeance" makes sense. My "arrives" is a bit weak.

"vice" and "vertu" are more about people. "there are good and bad people" or "there is good and evil in everyone" or something like that.
Here I understand it as "not matter how wicked or virtuous you are, you'll feel bitterness all the same"

Ah I see "wicked people and virtuous people". Yes that makes sense. Regular smile

I'm still not quite convinced I've nailed that section... it seems odd for something to be both coming back and unexpected. Or have I misread it... is it more like "but when it (the bitterness) comes back unexpectedly"

I don't think so. It's all about the hypocrisy and false sense of safety of the Western way of life.
Everybody pretends our way of life is wonderful, though bad and good people alike can't help but bitterly notice its blatant faults, yet when planes start crashing into towers, we seem to have difficulties connecting the dots.
That's how I understand it.

Yes that makes perfect sense and is how I understand the whole song. Just not quite happy with my line...
Maybe just a slight rephrasing would make it clearer.

But when something unexpected comes back to bite us in the arse

I think that's a bit clearer Regular smile
