Hello everyone,

when I was little, my grandmother used to sing a song to me, I am fairly certain it was in greek.
But I do not know the exact lyrics. I will try to transcribe the sounds I remember, maybe someone recognizes it:

tsibi tsibi tonaito
tonaito to stavrato
putsi buni uranike
pirani angeli

mjaga vasa pitera
jaje o, jaje si
jao barba pitsika
pitsika se rajse
mavri roga rajse
mavrike far make ri
caka toka lopuli

Does anyone recognize any words in that song? Maybe if I have the actual greek lyrics,
I can continue searching for the entire song. This song means a lot to me.

Kind regards,
Karlo

Γειά σας!

I've never heard this song before, but it seems that it includes the word "σταυράτο" in it. This song could possibly be in the Greek dialect of Romani, or another dialect of Greek.

I hope this helps and wish you luck in your search!

Hi Karlos! You are looking for this;

Τσίμπι-τσίμπι τον αϊτό
τον αϊτό το σταυρωτό
που τσιμπούν οι ουρανοί
και βγαίνουν οι αγγέλοι

Μια γαβάθα πίτουρα
ποιος θα φάει πιότερα
για εσύ για εγώ
για ο μπάρμπα τζίτζικας

Τζίτζικας ελάλησε
μαύρη ρόγα γυάλισε
μαύρη και φαρμακερή
τσάκα τσάκα το καλό πουλί!

Tsimpi-tsimpi ton aito
ton aito ton stavroto
pou tsimpoun oi ourani
kai vgenoun oi aggeli

Mia gavatha pitoura
pios tha fai piotera
gia esi gia ego
gia o mparmpa tzitzikas

Tzitzikas elalise
mavri roga gialise
mavri kai farmakeri
tsaka tsaka to kalo pouli

Actually, it is not a song but something like a poem, used in games like hide and seek. The children form a circle and one of them starts "singing" the lyrics. Each syllable corresponds to a different child and the one who takes the last syllable, becomes the seeker. The lyrics are pure surrealism making no sense...

Oh my god it's amazing that someone actually recognized it. And I find it lovely that it's a surreal children's recitation.
Still laughing at how much I massacred the lyrics. That explains why I wasn't getting _anywhere_ with google translate and the like.
Thank you so much! Did you play that when you were young?
