A A

Let's go, come on

Let's go, come on, let's earn our bread
we have sweat in our hands
And we can change
Let's go, come on, and let's move quickly
In this smoggy and stressful Italy
We are the smart who have to become stupid
We were born with two fates
We are the night and we are the dawn
We are roses and we are thorns
But we are branches of the same garden
Southerners
We are land full of sea
That nobody can understand
Whether we are fine or we are sick
We keep going on like this
Job is a gift
It's the hope to leave
Let's go, come on,and let's hold our hands together
If we are together we can go far
Cannot wait any longer
Let's go, come on, 'cause this life hurries
We are the home of kisses and caresses
But only rubbish makes the headlines
With this mafia with the mandolin
That they put on us since always
We are the face of a postcard
That belittles us all around the world
Southerners
We are the voice in the sea
that nobody wants to listen to
We are burned grass
That is never clear who was burned by
We are the mirror of a highway
That they will never complete building
Where the wind embraces the sea
Too many are the thoughts
And who grows up eating bitter bread
Is a foreign Italian
If justice washes its hands clean
Flags are white
And the one who can never think of the future
Was born a prisoner
We were born with two fates
We are the night and we are the dawn
We are roses and we are thorns
But we are branches of the same garden
Southerners
We are land full of sea
That nobody can understand
Whether we are fine or we are sick
We keep going on like this
Job is a gift
It's the hope to leave
The boys in Naples alleys
will never be Kings
In the Zen in Palermo they drink the time
because of the thirst for knowledge
And it is never easy sleeping with the whys
Living with patience is the biggest balance
For someone who may fall down.

1. Jammo means "let's go" and Ja is just the shortening for Jammo, butt it is often used as an exhotation, that's why I translated it as "come on".
2. Ca s'hann' 'a fa' fess can have two meanings: the first is "that got cheated" and the second is "that pretend to be stupid". In the song I think it's the second.
3. Zen is a neighbourhood in Palermo
4. Actually pecchè means "why" and "because" but also "the reason why" and "questioning why".

Thank you Carlo, my suggestions:
Simmo 'a faccia > ... a face ...
an highway > a ...
E chi cresce > and whoever ...
foregn > foreign
maie Re > ... Kings
Pe chi pò cadè > for someone who may fall down
Can you clarify a bit the meaning of 'a mafia cu 'o mandulino and bere 'o tiempo?

Thank you evfokas.
Simmo 'a faccia > ... a face ... CARLO: ok.
an highway > a ... CARLO: ok, sorry :-P
E chi cresce > and whoever ...CARLO: the meaning is who, not whoever (=chiunque in Italian and Neapolitan)
foregn > foreign CARLO: ok, sorry :-P
maie Re > ... Kings CARLO: yeah, sounds better.
Pe chi pò cadè > for someone who may fall down CARLO: yeah, sounds better.
Can you clarify a bit the meaning of 'a mafia cu 'o mandulino
CARLO: it means that because of the image of the mafia with the mandolin we are belittled all over the world because when you think about Naples, you mainly think about mafia and mandolin, a traditional (bad) image.
and bere 'o tiempo?
CARLO: literally it means "to drink the time", I'm not very clear about the meaning that the author wants to express. I would say that the author means that in these "poor" neighborhoods people are very thirsty for knowledge and they try to invent anything to live a better life, that's how they spend their time when they don't have a job. I'm not sure about that anyway, sorry!
