A A

We'll both be

We’ll both be
at the end of the same cigarette
or the same rope
when the song stops

We’ll both be
at the edge of this life
friends to the last moment
lovers until the day we forget

We’ll both be
trying to bring down
our memories like aeroplanes
running on empty

We’ll be together
my love to the end
to the end which isn’t far
And it’s good, and it’s good

We’ll both be
frozen in our armchairs
tracking their remorse
deep within their TV

We’ll both be
cursing Christmas
the one that took Daniel from us 1
hold my hand tightly please

We’ll both be
admiring from below
the courage that we don’t have
the courage of Anna Politkovskaya 2

We’ll both be
the eyes of the shot man
on his red poster
offering himself eternity

They have woven a shroud of shame over our country
hear now the anger and the tears
of those without papers, without shelter

We’ll both be
howling in the wind
yelling at the children
make the revolution

We’ll both be
Onboard a dream
Exploding with joy
and long live utopia

We’ll both be
linked with one hundred thousand other arms
walking on the face
of the executioners of joy

We’ll both be
Hunkered down on the wall
flinging cobblestones on
the loathsome crook

pissing to the moon
our deep disgust
“when I see all these dogs
I miss the wolves” 3

running on empty -> I quite like that!

dans nos fauteuils glacés -> or maybe "in our frozen armchairs". For some reason I'd rather prefer that.

The quote is from a rather obscure poem of Hugo's that was invoked recently during the trial of former prime minister de Villepin.

I rather read it as "we" being frozen rather than the armchairs. Could it be read either way?
Ah thanks, I'd ascertained it was Hugo but couldn't find the exact reference. :-)

A comma would be needed to decide who or what is actually frozen, but given the habit to throw lyrics punctuation to the wind, that becomes one more question to ask the author Regular smile
