Voltei. A ternura da mãe,
O amor austero do pai
Esparzem sobre mim
E o tempo abandona a idade
Para correr inumeravelmente pelos sóis.
Voltei. Sinto o cheiro
E vejo alguns objectos habitados
Pela lenta e freática trama dos símbolos:
A caixa da costura, os livros,
Os quartos, a mesa, as cortinas.
Voltei. A casa prolifera pela luz,

Voltei como quem emerge
Das águas da absolvição.
Ali está ela, a caixa da costura.

I have returned. The tenderness of mother,
The austere love of father
Spread over me
And time abandons age
To run endlessly through the suns.
I have returned. I catch the smell
And I see some objects, inhabited
By the slow and phreatic weaving of symbols:
The sewing box, the books,
The rooms, the table, the curtains.
I have returned. The house proliferates by the light,
It receives me, I belong.
I have returned as one who emerges
From the waters of absolution.
There it is, the sewing box.
