Let's face it, many love songs paint a false picture; they make it sound like all your dreams will come true. The same with songs about sex.

Which songs accurately and realistically describe our needs and wants, men vs. women? This is our chance to tell each other the truth.

Please use clean language in the forum discussion, and avoid "bashing".

This one is very good, especially since it was written about an actual relationship:

Hmm. . .I may have steered us down a dark path. My aploogies.

It is realistic for relationships to fall apart, but let's redirect to love that stays happily together.

But also not "Oh my cherie, i will take you away with me on a beautiful steed, off into the sunset of eternal bliss".

I'm not sure what the extreme would be on the testosterone side of the spectrum.

Hmm... Maybe "Hurt Tonight" by OneRepublic? I'm not sure if this is quite what you're looking for, but it isn't all the way on either end of the "misery to bliss" scale, so that's something.

"If I Lose Myself" (also by OneRepublic) is pretty dark if you look into the meaning, but it's about two people who love each other enough just to be glad that, even if they're dying, they're together.

Agreed.

Here's one for the country music fan.

It sounds mean at first, but if you hear the energy in the song, combined with "we can work it out", you'll see that it's meant to be humorous.

Definitely sounds like a strong bond and partnership.

It reminds me of what Solomon said: " Two are better than one. . . .For if one of them falls, the other can help his partner up. But what will happen to the one who falls with no one to help him up? And someone may overpower one alone, but two together can take a stand against him." I'm not sure if Solomon was talking about marriage. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

It would be nice if your romantic partner could be your best friend.

Thanks to both of you for gender ID. (I hope some day they add gender and nation/region as optional fields to our profiles.)

I believe we've heard from only one man so far. If we don't get some more feedback from men by Monday, I'll have to rename the forum to lure them in. "Sports, cars, watches. . .Now that I have your attention. . ."

I don't know, maybe some felt it was too personal but you can create a profile without that information so I'm not sure. All I know is that I used to have my state on my profile and I wanted to update it when I moved internationally but it's gone, as I noticed haha.

Right. And some people even put their photo, so you can tell what their gender is. But maybe people don't think of it. That's why I like the ideas of optional fields, to prompt the memory. But this is an awesome sight either way. I can adapt. I like to make suggestions but if they removed the field, there must have been a reason.

I'll go one step further, though, since we're discussing it. I would even like to try searching the mods, not just by language but also by speciality. Again, I wouldn't say it should be mandatory, but optional. This is because I love Cuban music and wish to connect with the Cuban community. The Mods usually volunteer the info but let's say you search Mods who are fluent in Spanish. Then you have to read the descriptions of all Mods fluent in Spanish. That's fine. I'm just accustomed to speed; I'm impatient and I hate reading, sorry to say. Right now, it appears that there is no Mod that specializes in Cuban Spanish.

Back to the subject of romantic love and commitment, the needs of men vs. the needs of women.

How about this phrase from the Goo Goo Dolls' Slide: "Put your arms around me. What you feel is what you are and what you are is beautiful. . .I want to wake up where you are." Is that just what women want to hear, or do men feel that way when they find "the right one"?

There is one poem - which I really like. in childhood - it scared me every time I heard it. (it's presents in the film, which is shown in Russia every year - on New Year's holidays)

https://lyricstranslate.com/ru/s-lyubimymi-ne-rasstavaytes-dont-say-fare...

it terrifies even more when you realize that there are real events described here. in 1932, the author passed the train tickets - because he wanted to stay with his wife a little longer. He made a decision - at the station, when he could not part with his wife while saying goodbye. the train, he was supposed to be on, got into a catastrophe and many of the ones who "swore love and promised to return" died. so this poem is about - that you need to love now. tomorrow there can be no one to love.

There is a song for these verses - but I don't like it much ((
because the text (in video) is abbreviated. but lyrics on LT is full

You're probably right.

Still, men have to have other needs besides sex. There must be songs out there somewhere that reflect this. Some songwriters draw from their own experiences. But others write what women/men want to hear, because that makes money."

Most of the times I observed both women and men exchange overly sweet sentiments, they were cheating on each other. Romantic songs, verses, movies, books glamorize verbal expressions because it takes talent, desire, and time to develop depth. In real life, actions at most difficult of times prove love. That said, it is really nice to find a lovely poem or a song, a book or a movie and feed the beast, lol, of romantic love!

Moses recorded: "You will crave your husband, and he will dominate you." (Genesis chapter 2.) I read a commentary that this is the earliest recorded reference to chemical imbalance. Songs about these extremes don't sound like real love.
