Come On, Let's See
Is our space too small? Or our gown too tight?*
What's going on?
Everyone's losing it, Who is he?
Who are you? Who are they?
Who's the most powerful?
Come on, let's see, may it come easy
It's a strange, difficult race
What's it to me? What would I know?
It's very complex, detailed work.
Come on, let's see, may it come easy
It's a strange, difficult race
What's it to me? What would I know?
It's very complex, detailed work.
You, should know yourself, you, yourself
You should keep your mouth tight
Watch your deeds and words
Or the boogeymen will get you
You, should know yourself, you, yourself
You should keep your mouth tight
Watch your deeds and words
Caution!
Oh inside us, such hungry ambition
Sometimes there's hijaz**, sometimes jazz breath
A side of us is accepting of anything
However much is possible, that much is wanted
Aaaaahhhh...
.....repeat.....

A fordítóról
* There is an old Turkish allegory about a bride that refuses to dance because she doesn't have enough room. When she is given room, she complains that her dress is too tight to dance in. - It is about using excuses as a pretext. The actual reason is something else.
** Hicaz (hijaz) - is a Turkish classical music notation
This translation is intended to be more contextual. Rather than a word for word translation, I have attempted to translate the intended ideas and phrases into their English counterpart. The purpose should be to allow English speakers to understand the intended meanings of the lyrics. However, as much as possible, I have left the Turkish context intact, so as to offer a glimpse into the cultural understandings as well.
It should be understood that this song is highly sarcastic, and intended to be ironic. The uptempo, house/dance beat is in direct opposition to the sobering topic at hand. The topic is world leaders and their desire to "one-up" each other and claim superiority, while leaving a trail of human destruction in their wake. The opening line using the old idiom about pretexts establishes this immediately. The use of children's rhymes, in the 4th stanza is both a warning to these leaders, as well as mocking their treatment of the "people" as children who don't know better, or can't understand what they're really up to. The elongated "Dikaaaat", meaning "Caution" used at the end of the repetition of this verse is a reference to the way the term is typically used in signs to warn people of impending dangers they are likely not aware of. In other words, treating them like children.
This mocking sarcasm is also evident in the main chorus lines - "What's it to me? What would I know? It's very complex, detailed work". Sezen's facial expressions in the video make it clear she's saying "what do I know? I'm just a silly girl anyway" in a mocking and sarcastic manner.
