Left-handed compliment (Angol) — A criticism or insult disguised as a compliment, an insult disguised as an expression of praise. The compliment has two meanings, one of which is unflattering, insulting to the receiver. Sometimes, a left-handed compliment may be inadvertent or undetected by the one it is intended against. A satirical tone of voice may be sufficient. "Nice hair", or "Nice shoes", etc.. The word 'nice' is a common part of an insult.
The right side of the body is considered good, the left side bad. Very common in Latin terminology.
