What is this artist's name? I think maybe it should be Wiccan Chants?
Btw, are you getting into Wicca SilentRebel83? ;)

The songs/chants listed here are from various sources, but are all bound into one work -- or hymnbook, if you will.

Yes, I thought of naming it Pagan traditional songs, but I decided to name it after the title of the book in which all of these works are collected under.

And no, I'm not affiliated with Wicca lol. Although, I am a fan of the chants -- I have posted various lyrics here that derive from Christianity to Satanism, and from other Pagan traditions of the Americas and the Isles of the Pacific.

Thanks for commenting! It was really flattering to read =)

So what about mantras (bhajans, kirtans), would this here be the place to post them?

I'm not quite sure what pagan is supposed to mean, just non-christian? :)

I would assume it's fine. Pagan just means that it's 'none of the above'... it ain't Judeo-Christian, Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist.

I guess the mantras don't fit in then, 'cause they are referring to the Hindu gods usually...

You're going for the entire book ey :)
dude, you're taking over the entire 'new content' section - that's not fair xD

Lol! Just finished.
But translating will be another story /faint

TrampGuyTrampGuy    Szombat, 09/02/2013 - 23:50

No no, you must stop translating! ;) you've reached such a nice number (congrats btw)
give some of us a chance to catch up - I'll have nothing to aspire to if you'll keep going xD

I liked "chants and songs" better...

I know right? They're simple and short for the most part.

I'm not sure if there is, but I suppose you could start an artist page for that. Speaking of Vikings, I look forward to seeing what you'll add.

ScieraSciera    Vasárnap, 03/06/2018 - 12:15

I went through the list and moved all those songs in which a featuring artist was given to the artist page of that featuring artist (creating a new one in many cases).
I've added all those songs and a couple more to this collection of mine: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/collection/hindu-and-pagan-songs
If there was more than one song and all songs were on topic I just added the artist instead.

If someone wants to be added as a collaborator to that collection, just ask.

I would suggest that to this artist page here only songs of unknown author/composer get added.
Possibly some of the songs I now moved to artist pages are also of unknown original author/composer and are just covered by that artist to which I moved them, but I didn't want to research nearly 100 artists, and for many of those on which I did a bit of research (e.g. to check whether the spelling is correct) there was hardly any info online.

I liked it better as it was before, having all the songs together on this page...

ScieraSciera    Hétfő, 04/06/2018 - 12:55

If you want you can remove the artists and add the individual songs to the collection.

Most of these pagan songs are very old and don't belong to particular artists, they should stay on this page here, "Pagan songs and chants".

ScieraSciera    Csütörtök, 03/12/2020 - 14:33

Thanks! But why should they be added to this artist page? They have known authors.

malucamaluca

There is a reason these songs are published in song books: So people looking for the songs can find them.

Usually nobody knows the names of the authors, they are sung at get-togethers and passed from one meeting to another. Sometimes lyrics are changed slightly, if someone takes a song he heard somewhere and adds additional verses, then this person might be credited authorship, but sometimes people invent new songs in a singing session.
I think it is very hard to determine authorship, I would only do this if there is a Youtube video or another form of published version where the author states that he is the person who wrote the song, it still makes more sense to me to name the author under featuring artist, as people come to the "Pagan Songs and Chants" page to look for songs they can use in meetings and if the songs are only filed under the name of the author nobody will find them.

Plus, in the songbook I mentioned above there are many songs that don't have an author mentioned.

ScieraSciera    Csütörtök, 03/12/2020 - 18:54

Which ones do you mean? Only #14 might be lacking an author, depending on how you interpret the notes.

Thanks for the explanation here, we'll discuss the rest via PM I think.
