Líadan (United States) - A Love Destined to Die
A Love Destined to Die
An ember flourishes from a spark and into a flame
burning brightly and consuming my melancholy, my shame;
shining a beacon through a mist of doubt and self-hate,
but all fires must die at the hands of my mistress' fate.
From the window of my soul I watch my beloved,
torn from his life and into the shadows I must remain,
even when I feel the warmth that radiates from his hand,
I am destined to be the ghost that he grasps in the night.
Never will I chance a look into your eyes
nor feel the strands of your hair over my face,
there's nothing I can offer and the little I have is not enough,
beloved, rather than spend one more day separated by a wall
I'd rather cast myself into the sea and drain all the blood in my veins.
There is no love here, love is destined to die;
love can only be buried and never be kept alive...
