Based on the poem "Heidenröslein" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, which is actually a poem about a rape.
The lyrics start alike but this time it's not the boy that spots the rose it's the girl wanting it. I didn't want to stick with the well known English translations of "Heidenröslein" beause a rosebud is a rose that hasn't flourished yet and "Röslein" is only a little rose, a wild grown, small rose. The lyrics of this song are a strong NO to rape. "It had been always like this" says it had always been the female to have the final say to have sexual intercourse.
On one side there's a boy willing to do anything to please a girl, picking the rose she demands, even willing/risking to die for his love. On the other side there's a girl willing to have sex and gets what she wants because if a girl wants it she gets it... Both die at the end, so both are getting off.
