Lie down, down, down, down,
眠りこんでしまいそうだ

潮風は吹き止んだまま
モノレールが穏やかにスロープを下る
賑やかな遊園地では人々が鈴生りになって笑う

Seaside Sleeping

The stairs of the pedestrian bridge. Out of breath.1
At the bus stop on the other side, the doors close. You ran away.
Vomiting my misery, I kicked the ground2
Since my actions were in vain
I gulped down a beer in the middle of the day3

Any brand is fine4
Last night's quarrel washes away in the foam5
I smoke a cigarette in the park by the canal
It was a gloomy Sunday. Since I've become hollow inside
I keep on aimlessly wandering

The sea breeze stopped blowing as
The monorail gently descended the slope
In the crowded amusement park, people crammed together laugh

Lie down, down, down, down,
I accidentally fall asleep

The sea breeze stopped blowing as
The monorail gently descended the slope
In the crowded amusement park, people crammed together laugh

  • 1. In the original Japanese, this line is written as two separate phrases which I have done here.
  • 2. The verb 吐き出す literally means to vomit.
  • 3. That is, the singer is drowning his sorrows.
  • 4. "Brand" here refers to the brand of beer the singer is drinking.
  • 5. I could have used "head" here, referring to a beer head (the foam on top), but used "foam" for clarity.
