(Seizensetsu)

People Are Good

Versions: #1#2#3
Hey, Mom, looks like you were right all along. They should be held accountable for all they have done.
They took everything from us that wasn’t bolted down. Left the buildings in ruin. Tanks lit by the sunset.

Hey, Mom, looks like you were right all along. Neighbors really should get along with each other.
No hurling insults back and forth over fences. Together hand in hand. Smiling and laughing.

Living in these times is hard enough all by itself. But if you can, please find a way to be happy.

Half awake I switch on the Television. A flood of images streams into my weary head.
Murders, burglary, and fatal accidents. New fads and idols. I don’t want to hear it.
I don’t have any time for relaxation. Life stuck in the rat race is wearing us down.
All I want is something nice for a change. All we want is something nice for a change.

Hey, Mom, looks like you were right all along. We can only live by beating everybody else.
Happiness is the prize for coming out on top. We can’t afford to lose. Can’t afford to run away.

If you shield yourself from the light, you’ll hear the shrieks in the night. And if you cover your ears, they’ll wrench open your eyes.

Urged on by the bright morning sun up above, I boarded the train heading towards her house.
I watched a mother take her child into the next car, sick of the stupid guy talk going on nearby.
All sorts of thoughts came to blows in my head. The crowded train became my personal war zone.
It was all I could do just to keep myself sane. I remember leaning up against the person next to me.

Hey, Mom, didn’t you always tell me? All of our lies will be found out in the end.
God’s sure to answer all of our prayers. We’ll always be repaid for our hard work.
Hey, Mom, guess what I just found out? Turns out everyone is really equal.
This world is beautiful just the way it is. And that everything I just said was empty hope.

I always used to believe that people were good, but that’s an idea we had to abandon.
We lock ourselves away with nowhere else to go. If we don’t escape reality we’ll never laugh again.
“At their core, people are really very nice.” You were the one who showed me that lie for what it was.
Education. Religion. Morality. I’m so sick of waiting. Give me something that works!

Hey, Mom, looks like you were right all along. If you believe yourself to be all that’s right with the world,
The only thing people around you will see is someone evil. But to me the only thing right with the world is you.

I know this will be the 3rd English translation available for this song. But man, I just love it too much not to translate it.
