These translations are great but I have a question… How important, in musical performance, truly is a “literal” translation, in comparison to the artist’s expression of the music?
I ask this because - I am not French, though I understand it and I too picked up on the mispronunciations by Dimash as well as a few corrections in his later performances. Either way, I understood the words from their context, just as I would in English. I am a healer. I preferred his first performance, because the way that this performer can Modulate his tones, resonance, and so forth is, imho, the essence of what makes music a language unto itself and why it is so important in our lives
Neither of the two other, prior translations are totally accurate, and otherwise I felt that I could improve on them, so I prepared my own.
In addition, those 2 translations track the French lyrics set forth above, which in some places are erroneously transcribed and do not reflect what Dimash is actually singing (as noted above). I have addressed this deficiency in my translation, which is fully consistent with the words that Dimash is actually singing.
Note: In the video linked on this page, Dimash 'cuts and/or pastes' the original French lyrics in a number of places. In this later video/version, Dimash also 'cuts and/or pastes' the original French lyrics in a number of places, but differently than in the prior video/version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W29zEuZVaxs. In both cases, the changes degrade the flow and overall meaning of the original lyrics.
