So lange hier keine Sirenen erklingen,

So lange hier keine Sirenen erklingen,

Da muss man dringend was tun, zumindest irgendwann.
Es lebe das Leben unterm Tellerrand.

Shrapnel Of Grenades

It is the year 2015 and the world is applauding
But what actually happens we don't really actually know
'cause what has changed in the past 5 years?
Well let's have a look at this shit then

BMW pays 700,000 to the CDU*
And all of a sudden Mrs Merkel doesn't agree to new car pollution norms anymore
Obama is still here and Guantanamo is as well
Well nothing every happens there except for a lot of power consumption
The NSA has been spying on everyone for decades
And we acted surprised and were outraged for a week
And Home Secretary Friedrich flew over there, everyone paid attention
He came back with a little note which said "fuck you"
And Putin is running through forests, killing bears just for fun
And gives green light to beat up gays
Laws are changed and dictated overnight
But to ban the NPD** is very complicated

As long as we can't hear any sirens
No soldiers jumping through our windows
No neighbours fleeing over borders at night
And our children don't play with shrapnel of grenades
Then all of this is miles away, it's not our business at all
'cause the TV as always doesn't talk about this country
And every year, at New Year's eve
We cheer to our life within our selfimposed confines***

This wasn't everything by a long shot
In Cairo and in Kiev people are being cornered
Policemen losing their shit and shooting aimlessly into the masses
In North Korea a big toddler is the one in power
Who provokes a nuclear war and thinks
It is a pillow fight
Hunger in the third world has no relevance at all
But what's important are petitions agains Markus Lanz****
Homes for asylum seekers are secure, of course they are
43 attacks on them, and that's just in one year

As long as we can't hear any sirens
No soldiers jumping through our windows
No neighbours fleeing over borders at night
And our children don't play with shrapnel of grenades
Then all of this is miles away, it's not our business at all
'cause the TV as always doesn't talk about this country

'cause a single person can't really change a thing
We should really do something about this, at least at one point
Long live the life within our selfimposed confines

Thanks for uploading your translation.
May I put in a few suggestions:
Title: Shrapnel
'cause what did actually change in the last 5 years? => has changed in the past 5 years
Well nothing every happens there except for a lot of electricity usage => ... power consumption
He came back with a little not which said "fuck you" => ... a little note
Laws are changed and dictated over night => overnight (one word)
And gives green light to beat up homosexuals => preferably 'gays'
As long as we can't here any sirens => hear
And our children don't play with splinters of grenades => ... play with shrapnel

That wonderful expression "Leben unterm Tellerrand" might be rendered as "selfimposed confines" (I made this up after reading an explanation in German) Die Redewendung "über den Tellerrand sehen" bedeutet im übertragenen Sinne, etwas über den eigenen eingeschränkten Gesichtskreis zu betrachten ... (see: https://german.stackexchange.com/questions/1300/was-bedeutet-%C3%9Cber-d...)

Thank you so much for the great suggestions, I found this song quite hard to translate, so it's much appreciated and I took on most of your suggestions. :)
I only kept the part with "beat up homosexuals" as I had it originally as I think it makes it a bit clearer that not only male homosexuals are meant, even though the word gay can obviously mean both genders as well from what I know. But since the original lyric uses the word "Homosexuelle" already I though it can stay... ;)
I really appreciate your explanation (even if you made it up yourself... ;)) about the "Leben unterm Tellerrand" part which I've adapted as well, it brings over the meaning very well I think. Thank you very much for that!

I was so intrigued by the German lyric that I ventured to do a version of my own. As I put it, it's NOT a translation per se, but I couldn't resist to do it.
P.S. 'homosexuals' is such a l-o-n-g word ... I think 'gay' covers all those ... but of course it can stay!!
P.P.S. 'superimposed' ... I meant selfimposed...

I love your translation, probably way better than mine, has a way better flow... great job mate! I think I was a bit overworked when I did mine haha! ;) That's also why I put "superimposed" for some stupid reason instead of "selfimposed"! And I went with "gay" now as well, as it is indeed a lot shorter... ;)
I totally understand the urge though, AA lyrics are just soo cool and interesting, I was shocked to see that even the German originals weren't on here yet!
