Diese Übersetzung ist nicht 100% äqui-rhytmisch, anbei meine Verbesserungen:

In meiner Druckausgabe steht „andern“. Damit würde mein Metrum stimmen.

Yet many a friend I had Warum „yet“? Das Simple Past nehme ich gerne an!
Ginge auch: Many a close friend I had.

who’s not seen darkness fall, never ersetzt durch not: dadurch 6 Silben / felt würde ich gerne beibehalten
