El Corrido de los Mojados (traduzione in Inglese)

El Corrido de los Mojados

Porque somos los mojados
siempre nos busca la ley,
porque andamos ilegales
y no sabemos inglés,
la «migra» terca a sacarnos
y nosotros a volver.
Unos entran por Laredo
por Mexicali y San Luis,
por Tijuana y Ciudad Juárez
y por Nogales también,
por Reynosa y Piedras Negras
cuántos entramos al mes.
El problema de nosotros
fácil se puede arreglar:
que nos den a una gringuita
para poder emigrar
en cuanto nos den la mica
la mandamos a volar.
Si se acabara el mojado
¿de quién podrán depender?
¿quiénes piscarán tomate,
lechuga y el betabel,
el limón, uva y toronja?
todo se echara a perder.
Y los salones de baile
todos los van a cerrar,
pues si sacan al mojado
todos van a fracasar
y a las que viven del welfare
¿quién las irá consolar?
El problema de nosotros
fácil se puede arreglar:
que nos den a una gringuita
para poder emigrar
en cuanto nos den la mica
la mandamos a volar.

Editor's comment:
I included the video according to the artist, and I see now, that the lyrics don't quite match. Some more editing is necessary.

The ballad of the wetbacks*

Because we're wetbacks
the law is always after us,
because we're illegals
and we don't know English,
the "migra"1 stubbornly kicks us out
and we come back again.
Some come in through Laredo,
through Mexicali and San Luis
through Tijuana and Ciudad Juárez
and through Nogales2 too,
through Reynosa and Piedras Negras
so many of us come in each month.
Our problem
can easily be resolved:
give us3 a little Gringa4
so we can emigrate
and when we get our papers5
we'll tell her to hit the road.
If there are no more wetbacks
who will we depend on
to pick the tomatoes,
lettuce and beets?
the limes, grapes and grapefruit
will all go to waste.
And they will close down
all of the dance halls,
because if they kick out the wetback
they'll all dance poorly,
and those on welfare
will have no one to console them.
Our problem
can easily be resolved:
give us a little Gringa
so we can emigrate
and when we get our papers
we'll tell her to hit the road.

Commenti dell’autore:

*wetback = a derogatory term used against Mexicans (particularly those who are illegally residing in the US). It is said the term was used to describe Mexicans who crossed the Rio Grande to get into the US. I cannot erase this disgusting term nor the history behind it even if I wished it, if terms and songs like this didn't exist, we wouldn't be able to educate others about how they came to be.

Good job. Ellen.
I would leave "migra" as "migra" with the foot note, as you have.

Hello Rosa,
I made the changes and left it as a footnote, thanks.
