Breath

First you come, then you come again,
And then nothing comes for a long time.
Illuminate the nights, all the songs!
You are the quintessence of light
and the pinnacle of sacrifice.
We've been in the honeymoon phase for years,
But we've never sealed the deal.*
You put me in ecstasy.
I'd love to know how!

You always remain a promise,
offer a thousand good reasons.
This cannot be a crime.
But if it is, then surely it's not a sin...

What a rush!
What a delusion!
We are grandiose, and a fantastic team!
What a pleasure!
What a run!
For we accomplish everything that no one else can,
and we'll never stop again!

When I'm awake, when I sleep:
I always want to be with you.
I am your wolf, and they are the sheep.
Choose, and it will be yours.
It has nothing in common with us.
Star in the darkness, I am the Earth,
you are flame, I'm just dust.
We are one, they are the herd
We are a scream of pleasure, they are deaf.

You always remain a promise,
offer a thousand good reasons.
This cannot be a crime.
But if it is, then surely it's not a sin...

What a rush!
What a delusion!
We are grandiose, and a fantastic team!
What a pleasure!
What a run!
For we accomplish everything that no one else can,
and we'll never stop again!

I have stayed the way I was.
Your are my medicine and poison.
I find the dosage insufficient.
You are what strikes me,

What permeates me,
And swings with me.
It is certainly a case, even of obsession,
What sounds within me,
And sings from me.
It will be a deep plummet into immortality.

What a rush!
What a delusion!
We are grandiose, and a fantastic team!
What a pleasure!
What a run!
For we accomplish everything that no one else can,
and we'll never stop again!

Commenti dell’autore:

Odem is an archaic or poetic term for breath, though I believe the capitalization is meant to highlight the word "Ode" as well.

*A literal translation is "for years in the hot phase/but the Last comes never", see the comments for further debate about these lines.

Corrections are welcome.

very good translation!

>"doch zum Letzten kommt es nie."
By "zum Letzten" he most probably means having sex.
"the outmost" (?) never happens

Thank you, I had no idea. I am not sure what you mean by "outmost" though. Could I translate that as "the orgasm never happens" or "the climax never happens"? Or am I still missing something?

My interpretation is, that he says "we are doing this and that, but we never get to having sex",
without explicitly saying that.
The translator's creativity is challenged to find a way to convey that.
For a native English speaker it should be easier than for a non-native.

If that's the interpretation that you got then I'd like to make a small correction to it. The line would say: "we are doing this and that, but we never get to have sex"

Sorry for butting into your conversion
