We can vote for the translations, but not for the lyrics. It might be a nice thing to be able to vote for the lyrics to, at least it will show how popular they are within the community. [@LT]

EDIT:: By popular, I mean 'being liked' not just 'viewed'.

There actually is a filter in every artist page with several songs added. It's the Song/Album/Language/Popularity one, just click it and it will list songs by popularity.

There's also the Popular Content page: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/topnodes/0/7/song

I don't think lyrics voting is necessary.

I understand the 'popularity' you talk of is about how many people 'viewed' the page, not how many people 'liked' it (and if so how much). People can just get curious for whatever reason (e.g. a catchy title, known artist, or some heated debate going on in the comments on that page) and read through pages, but don't like them at all.

"Thanks" is also a popularity metric. And voting implies quality, not popularity.

I agree that thanks could be a measure of people 'liking' a song and voting, as specified by FAQ 3.6, should be a measure of the quality of the 'translation', as they are not defined for the songs. It seems that to use them for songs, a new 'extended' definition is needed.

I checked the 10 most popular songs in the link provided on #2 in this thread. Zero thanks for 3 of them, and two of them each has 1, 2 and 3, thanks. All the thanks are from guests. Maybe it is not the best measure of how songs are liked or disliked among LT users.

Maybe we can have a new feature called 'like/dislike' (say from 1 to 5), for a song to show how much people 'like' or 'dislike' a song, something 'thanks' doesn't show. A song getting lots of 'dislikes' (low votes) could mean not a likeable song to many people here, and more 'liked' songs might get a better chance of being translated. As in the LT 'voting' system, people may need to 'show cause' for their likes or dislikes on extreme cases, but that might be too much. Of course, being 'unliked' doesn't say anything about whether a song needs to stay or not.

I suggested the same measure some time ago, after noticing that the most popular songs in my favorite artist's folder are the ones which are usually unfamiliar to 99% of listeners. That happened because there was some fluctuation in views based on the recent translation requests. I checked the other artist - same story. If someone discovers this artist at that very moment, they will start listening to some obscure songs rather well-known "hits" of this artist. One can pay attention to a number of translations, this is a good indicator of true popularity among our community, but there is no mechanism to sort by this metric either.
I'm with you that some sort of "upvoting" the lyrics and filtering artists' folders by this metric will be a good idea.

In think that "thanks" is okay to say you like a song.
Star-rating would be more like saying whether the transcription is accurate or not.

Actually, it might be useful, as many transcriptions are quite poor, both in terms of getting words wrong, and of not providing any sensible punctuation and/or line breaking.

It's hard enough to keep translation voting reasonable, so I think adding this feature for lyrics would do more harm than any good.
