First time I noticed them, cause I just received one, which was false btw, and gave me a link to different page than what it stated.
On a slightly different note, I only get email notifications on completed requests of mine, how could I get ones for new messages and replies/comments of all sorts - both on my uploads and also wherever I commented?
It would also be nice to get these notifications for when someone requests translation or add one to one of your uploads/submissions.

First of all, there are no new comments anywhere.
Second, there aren't any comments by the users mentioned anywhere in that thread.
And third, these are not threads I started.
What's going on?
Yeah, it always writes 'threads that you started' whenever I comment on someone else's thread, too.
Do you have the links of those threads?
As for beaummife's comment, you wouldn't see it because the user was banned, same thing may have happened for the other.

Okay, so that's what I thougt: Those users did reply to a thread in which you participated, but because they were spam users their profile was then deleted. So non-moderators cannot see the comments, but you still got a notification when the original comment was posted.

Well judging from the notifications I've received, you are notified when someone comments/rates one of your translations or replies to a comment you left on someone else's translation.
I'm not sure about the requests on one of your uploads, though. I must admit I became aware of this new feature at the same time you did.

@crimson_antics is right, it is a bug in new notifications feature, caused by spam comments. Yes, spammers hit some threads more often than others, for unknown reason. We'll fix it soon, please regret for inconvenience.
This bug is fixed, there should be no notifications on spam messages anymore. Thanks for reporting the bug!
Thanks! it would also be nice not getting notifications for self posts - for ex. I'm getting notification of me adding comments.
