You Never Speak

You never speak, why?
If there is a reason, come on, try to tell me
Do not withdraw into yourself like that!
You never speak, why?
I envy you a little bit, you know
Who knows what is in that silence?
You never speak, all right!
It is because you are different or because you are too much withdrawn
You should go out a bit
And you write thousand words and thousand letters and then
You fall asleep, thinking whether to send them or not
And you get scared of dreams which you have never had
And then you wake up, there is no morning without coffee
You never speak, however, I look in your eyes
There is an universe in you and the sun, only yours
You never speak and therefore I listen your silence
It is like a song that arrives to the one who wants it
I was wrong to say that you are too much withdrawn
Do not go out, stay there, because you have all what you want
Do not speak, there is the one who can love you also like that
Write, and if you like, I would like a letter for me
With all what you want...
With all what you are...
With all what you have...
And you write thousand words and thousand letters and then
You fall asleep, thinking whether to send them or not
And you get scared of dreams which you have never had
And then you wake up, there is no morning without coffee
You never speak and therefore I listen your silence
It is like a song that arrives to the one who wants it

perché-is not interogation "why"..its translated as "because..." ..that the person who talks to the other awaits to complete the sentence, its like when someone makes you a question but already knows the answer, some italian lyrics cannot be translated in english simply because the meaning of the song would change too much, like you did now, using the why,and not the becouse..hope you understand :)

actually, I think that the perché is better translated in this instance as "why?" preceded by a comma, as in the original tentative. If it is translated as "because," it will join the following verse, which is not the meaning of the song.

"Why?" can indeed be asked as a rhetorical question without expecting any answer.

"You never talk because...." or "You never talk 'cos" begs for a continuation into the next verse, whereas "why?" effectively ends the line.

Yes, I've understood what you mean...
But really, that "why" is not changing the meaning of the song, because "why" and "because...?" have the same meaning and the first one seems less confusing.
In any case, I'll think about it...
Thanks for reading my translation, I'm always happy when someone bothers to correct me :)

the "because..." in english suggest the waiting of a reply,a "why" force a reply..its like you say to someone "why you do this???",instead the meaning would be.."you do this because...."my personal experience thought me that the tone is what makes a music, while comunicating..I like that too from you, that we confront and learn more, thank you..

You never talk 'cos…
You should listen to Karol! :)
"You never speak, why?" doesn't sound too good anyway.

"why" and "because" don't have the same meaning.

It's not actually a question. Cause there's no one to answer it…
The one who is talking is not waiting for a reply, and is actually trying to accept the situation.

Like Karol said, it's not the question it's the way you ask it…

BTW, thank you, Karol!
