Am I mispronouncing something, or does the meter go astray a bit in the sixth line?
В лист он падет затем. (six syllables)
Так сгинул в беде Эдем. (seven syllables)
Would "пал" instead of "сгинул" work?

Сынуль, просто убери М, поставь S ;)
Читается очень легко и плавно, несмотря на разногласия в подсчёте гласных 🥰
Quote:Но и у автора первые и последние строки ритмически выпадают.
The first line has an initial trochaic inversion - it is traditional and very common in iambic poetry. The last line begins with a "headless iamb", an iamb without its unstressed syllable. It is common in English verse, but not as traditional. "Headless iambs" don't have much of a presence in English iambic poetry before the 20th century.
Quote:5-ая строчка у меня действительно звучит странно.
I think "Then leaf subsides to leaf" means the leaf that is a flower turns to a that is just a leaf. In other words, the beautiful leaf (youthfulness) of life begins to fade and become the less beautiful leaf (maturity).
I guess Frost didn't agree with the saying "old is gold".
Спасибо большое, Кевин, я этих метрических особенностей англоязычной поэзии не знал. Очень интересно!
>I think "Then leaf subsides to leaf" means the leaf that is a flower turns to a that is just a leaf.
Да, я тоже так подумал (листок становится листом) и решил, что слово "subsides" при переводе нет необходимости отражать драматичным глаголом, нейтральное "станет" вполне подойдет. Теперь меня больше беспокоит предпоследняя строка.
>I guess Frost didn't agree with the saying "old is gold".
Определенно. Но с "old is bold" он, возможно, смог бы согласиться.

Look carefully at the punctuation. The sixth and seventh lines go together as one sentence.
Maybe something like this would work:
Лист листом станет вскоре.
Канул Эдем так в горе,
Заря так днём и станет.
Всегда вот злато канет.
Keв, вам самому на русский пора переводить! 👍
