Poranek jesienny na Majdanku
Z nastaniem pewnego szarego poranka
stali staceńcy pod kratą Majdanka,
patrzali z za krat na sznury żurawi,
ciągnących do krajów, gdzie Wolnośś nie krwawi.
A lot ich masowy z klekotem zmięszany
wydzwaniał w przestworzach wyzwoleń peany.
Ci z dołu, patrzali do góry, do góry
aż ptactwo stęsknione odeszło za chmury,
wciąż stali wzdychając, patrzali, patrzali
i cicho palcami nurt łez ocierali...
Bo takie już są te zjawiska jesienne,
że gorycz rzucają przez kraty więzienne
do cel i do piwnic, do ciemnych karcerów,
i nie drgnął, gdy bracia go kładli do pieca.

An Autumn Morning At Majdanek
With the advent of one grey morning
the commanders stood in front of the Majdanek grate,
they looked from behind bars at the ropes of cranes,
pulling into the countries, where Freedom doesn't bleed.
And their mass flight is confused with a clatter
calling in the skies in children's songs.
Those from below, looked up, up
until the longing birds disappeared behind the clouds,
they still stood, sighing, looking, looking
and quietly wiped the current of tears with their fingers...
Because that's what autumn phenomena are like now,
that bitterness they throw through the prison bars
into the cells and into the basements, into the dark sanctuaries,
grabbing the pioneers by the throats,
each of which is already staggering on his feet,
broken, trampled by the waiting of dawn.
Yes, the prison bars - it's a chessboard of souls,
its field of squares - biliary board:
despair, curses, prayers, hopes,
usually one tear will shed into these fields.
The sooner the complex of squares is dried out,
the greater of this party is the victory of the soul...
That is why he spoke there in the hour of his death
a skeleton rabbi, hungry for perseverance,
of persevering one's soul before the far journey:
"goodbye, my loved ones, the ages are calling me...!
Ah, know and believe, that there's no need to sob,
but to fly from bread to heaven,
steps of separation, steps of dismantling,
treading up when fate so dictates,
to run away from the ears of corn, with fragrant grains,
from the springs in the woods as beating hearts,
running from the borders, where the stomach
enslaves all that is called reason... "
And the skeleton went silent and collapsed in on himself,
and fell asleep so quietly in the corner like in a grave,
he no longer gave advice in the form of a word or a breath
and he didn't move, when the brothers put him in the furnace.
