Su testamentu

Como chi so a lettu moribundu
morzo trancuillu, serenu e cuntentu,
però, prima chi lasse custu mundu,
cherz’iscrier su meu testamentu
e dimando chi siat rispettadu
su disizu de s’urtimu momentu.

Apenas mi bidides ispiradu
inserrademi puru in battor taulas:
deo non cherzo baule forradu.
E nessune pro me ispendat paraulas
in lodare, comente bi nd’at,
chi fintzas in sa fossa naran faulas.

Sa sepoltura la cherzo iscavada
foras de su comunu campusantu:
meritat gai s’anima dannada.
Non permitto a s’ipocritu piantu
de benner a mi fagher cumpanzia
cando so sutta ’e su funebre mantu.

The Will

Now that I’m dying in bed,
I die quiet, peaceful and glad,
but before I leave this world
I want to write my will
and I demand that they be respected
the wishes of the last moment.

As soon as you'll see I'm deceased,
just enclose me in four planks:
I don’t want a lined coffin.
And no one spend praising words
about me, as there are those
who tell lies even near the grave.

I want my grave to be dug
outside the common cemetery:
that’s what the damned soul deserves.
I don’t allow the hypocritical crying
to come and make me company
when I’m under the funerary pall.

The Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic churches have actually quite a few Soul Saturdays to commemorate the dead but the main two are the Saturday before Quadragesima and the Saturday before Pentecost. I don't think the dead worth more but they are surely remembered more, the corresponding prayer for the dead is Memoria Æterna instead of Requiem Æternam

Not to mention that in greek a word for grave is μνῆμα which in latin translates to something like memorum

Okay, I'll convert to orthodox religion before dying, an orthodox dead is better treated and remembered ;)

Thank you Marco
My suggestions:
chi siat > that they may be (respected)
comunu > communal
meritat gai s’anima dannada > that’s what the damned soul deserves
mantu > shroud

Welcome back Evan! Thanks for your suggestions and your vote.
I'm going to post the whole poem of Mereu, so I think your help will be really valuable, if I can take advantage of your kindness ;)

Sorry Evan, I thought better, probably I should change something again. The Sardinian for English “communal” would be “cumonale”; “comunu” means just “common”.
And “shroud” corresponds more to the Sardinian “mapula” or “sudariu”. I think that “mantu” can correspond to “pall”.
I think also that “may” could reduce the sense of imperative order in the 5th line. So I’d prefer “I demand that they be respected”.
