An Acrostic
Elizabeth it is in vain you say
"Love not"—thou sayest it in so sweet a way:
In vain those words from thee or L. E. L.
Zantippe's talents had enforced so well:
Ah! if that language from thy heart arise,
Breathe it less gently forth—and veil thine eyes.
Endymion, recollect, when Luna tried
To cure his love—was cured of all beside—
His folly—pride—and passion—for he died.
翻訳
Ah, ah! Yüreğinizden oluşan bu dil çıkarsa meydana,
Beri tarafa onu daha nazikçe fısıldayıp—gözlerinizi peçeyle örtünüz.
Endymion'i, hatırlayın, Luna'nın aşkını 3.
Tedavi etmeyi denediğini—yanı başında tedavi edişini—
Haysiyetsizliği—ahmaklığı—ve tutkusu —uğruna ölmüştü o.
- 1. Muhtemelen İngiliz şair ve romancı Letitia Elizabeth Landon'dan bahsediyor.
- 2. Eski Atinalı, Sokrates'in karısı ve üç oğlu olan Lamprocles, Sophroniscus ve Menexenus'un annesi.
- 3. Luna ay tanrıçası, Endymion ise gençliği sonsuz uykuyla korunan yakışıklı genç çoban. Bazı kaynaklarda avcı diye de geçer.

Back at Uni we had a few Turkish natives. We often exchanged a few words like 'Günaydin' and 'Merhaba'. They unfortunately had to come back with the 2016 coup d'etat attempt and we then only heard bad news from them. But one of them seems to be happily married now, and that's awesome. Hope things are better to you back there.

L.E.L. probably refers to Letitia Elizabeth Landon, English poet and novelist.
