Song of the Sea

I sailed on my boat to dance,
far away, on the cruel sea
and the roaring waves 1
said that I came to steal the unmatched light
of your so beautiful glance.

You sailed so far away over the sea
you discovered a world to dream.
My Brazil,
your song, your colour
and so many beautiful things…
I wanted you for me, I wanted you to be happy,
I wanted you like this, forever.

My Brazil, I miss you,
my Brazil, I want to see you.
Your dance, your glance
make me dream,
make me love life.
I take your hand, just like a brother.
Brazil, beloved land.

Eu te quis pra mim, te quis feliz
Te quis assim, para sempre - here the verb querer in the three cases it is used means to want. Unlike Spanish where te quiero means I love you, in Portuguese querer is only want. I love you is Te amo.

Cheers,
Nadejda

I didn't know that and I didn't check, wrongly believing it was not needed. Corrected.

I learn Portuguese little by little while translating songs. Usually I go by Spanish and I check only the words that are different than in Spanish and which I haven't learned yet, checking also the conjugation table.

Great thanks, Nadejda,
Andrzej

Oh, yes there are those false friends in both languages and that might be tricky sometimes Regular smile

Cheers,
Nadejda

Well, I wouldn't describe it as a false friend. At least one Spanish meaning is the same. False friend is rather when the meaning is completely different. There are many words in Polish, Czech and Russian that sound the same or very similar, but they mean something completely different.

Yes, indeed. Same with Russian and Bulgarian, and sometimes it is even funny Regular smile
