Now you can add aliases for artist names. So far, the form is only available when editing an artist page.

There are 3 types of aliases available:
- the name of the artist in another language
- legal name
- search hints, e.g. "Pink" for P!nk

We expect aliases to be very helpful in the search, especially for those who do not speak English.

Perhaps now it is possible to change the rule for artist names: it is not necessary to enter a name in the Latin alphabet, because there is an alias in English for this purpose?

It also became possible to show the artist's name in different languages depending on the interface language - what do you think, is it a good idea?

Please share your opinions and suggestions on this topic.

So far, aliases only affect search. All three types of aliases are taken into account.

If I would do it, I would use the following:
Artist name: Sergey Galanin
Original spelling: (legal name): Сергей Галaнин or Сергей Юрьевич Гала́нин
Aliases: Ser'Ga, Serga, Серьга.

I once added a new artist: Sergey Galanin and it had to be unpublished as a duplicate, and I suspect it was not the first Sergey Galanin that was unpublished.

I disagree just because it would open room for duplicates. It's good we will now allow other forms, but I think at least a way to standardize artist names must be used.

Hmm. For me, here is some kind of confusion.
Sergey Galanin - is one person
Ser'Ga - is a band named after him.
But Sergey Galanin as a person was a member of several different musical groups (Brigada S for example)
It confuses me a little whether it is possible to equate a person and a band.

(I must confess that I do not follow his work very closely to say whether he sang solo, or always as part of the band)

Maybe deleting Galanin's page was a mistake, by the way. ))

I think keeping Latin is helpful. But it’s great to see aliases.

I’m also somewhat confused with the aforementioned singer vs band. Recently, I added songs under the existing artist - Zoya Yashchenko -

Then, I realized her band - Belaya Gvardiya - is under another existing artist -

I went thru the songs and added the band as the featured artist, but I’m not certain if that was correct.

I'm trying to edit a page to add an alias (an artist's legal name) but I can't, I get the message:

Artist name in different languages (e.g. "Пинк Флойд" for Pink Floyd) or search hints (e.g. "Pink" for P!nk).
You are not allowed to add any of the bundles.

Some updates on the topic:

- aliases and the "Original name" field are taken into account when adding new content. For example, when you try to add a new artist СерьГа, it will be automatically replaced by SerGa.

- alias type "Legal name" is replaced with "Original name" type. It is intended to replace the "Original name" field. But for some time both "Original name" field and "Original name" alias will be active.
