Rub It In

Rub it in! Rub it in! Rub it in! Rub it in! Ohhh.

I wasn't given a slice or the luck of the dice
Or a face like yours.
My family's home your family owned. We called you lord.
When we first met, you hadn't decided as yet if you would sail or soar.
Now I'm a grateful pet. Please let me forget what's mine and what's yours.

Rub it in! Ah, Rub it In.
You make me ashamed cause I pretend we're the same,
And then you rub it in.

Well you learned so young, what's done is done.
People are born to their breed.
So as not to be racist but terminally faceless:
You fancy mating with me.
Why was I the obvious choice, my looks or my voice?
Or was I too blind to see?
You put me on that wall, so when you take your fall,
You can point out how much better off you are than me.

Rub it in! Oooh, Rub it In.
You make me ashamed cause I pretend we're the same,
And then you rub it in.

Rub it in! Rub it in! Rub it in!
Rub it...in!

The lyrics are from the insert with the lyrics from the album. However, I added a little punctuation and extra things that he actually says in the recording. This band is from Claremont, California, which is part of the Inland Empire, where I live.

"Rub it in" is a great idiom that means to make someone else feel horrible by reminding them of something that they do not want to hear, usually an advantage that one has over someone else. In this case, the singer is stating that someone he had a relationship with keeps reminding him (rubbing it in) that she is from a higher class than he is (one of the rich kids in the U.S.).
